The Bachelor's programme in Sociology and Social Policy is a unique programme in the Czech environment that combines the theoretical and methodological perspective of two disciplines - sociology and social policy, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the social structures and policies that shape the world around us. In the course of their studies, students are introduced to different areas of social policy and study the development, implementation and impact of policies that address issues such as poverty, education, health care and social justice. They also engage in critical inquiry into social phenomena, examine the impact of public policies, and develop analytical and research skills that are key to understanding and solving social problems. In the classroom, we teach how to identify social problems, understand their nature, offer solutions, and communicate proposed solutions appropriately. The program emphasizes both the theoretical perspectives of social policy and sociology and their practical applications. Students have the opportunity to test and apply theoretical knowledge in practice through internships, field trips, and research projects. We support study stays and internships abroad. This dynamic and interdisciplinary study programme is the result of cooperation between the Departments of Sociology and Public and Social Policy. The ability to collaborate and work as a team is exactly what characterises this programme and its graduates. Graduates are well qualified for graduate studies at the Departments of Public and Social Policy and Sociology at FSV UK or at similarly focused departments in the Czech Republic and abroad. Our program focuses on preparing students for a variety of career paths and equips graduates with the skills and knowledge needed to work in public administration, private and non-profit sectors in a wide range of professions such as Public policy experts/analysts, researchers in applied research, professional officers, consultants, human resource workers, media workers, junior and middle managers in health and social services, service quality managers, project managers, junior and middle managers in public administration institutions.

Graduate profile for the public:
2024 - nové
Graduates of the Sociology and Social Policy study programme are competent professionals capable of understanding and analysing social phenomena and problems in modern societies, such as growing social and economic inequalities, labour market changes, family changes, inequalities in education and health, and migration, both independently and in teams. At the same time, they understand the social policy systems that aim to address these problems (health, social security and social services, education) and can identify the deficits of these systems and the causes of their failure. They orient themselves in the social policy system in the broader context of the welfare state, understand its background, logic and mechanism of action in the Czech Republic and abroad (especially in the countries of the European Union). They are familiar with basic theories of public policy and important theories and concepts in sociology and other social sciences and understand their relevance to social practice. This enables SOSP graduates to work in multidisciplinary teams and to participate in solving problems that require an interdisciplinary approach. They can design and implement applied qualitative, quantitative or mixed sociological research focused on different areas of social policy, but they can also investigate social reality using broader social science methodologies. They are prepared to propose creative solutions to social problems using modern public policy tools at the national, regional and local levels. Thanks to this knowledge and skills, they can be perfectly employed in public administration offices, in non-profit organizations, as well as in the private sector in the Czech Republic and abroad in a wide range of professions such as experts/analysts in the field of public policies, researchers in applied research, professional officers, consultants, human resources workers, media workers, junior and middle managers in health and social services, service quality managers, project managers, junior and middle managers of public administration institutions. They can also continue their studies in the Czech Republic or abroad.
