SP characteristics

The study programme provides the opportunity to gain theoretical knowledge, practical skills and methodological proficiency in the subject Catholic Theology, as well as related religious, ethical and civil attitudes. The study plan covers mainly the areas of Biblical Studies, Fundamental and Dogmatic Theology, Moral Theology. These basics are elaborated by the subjects concerned with theoretical, legal and practical aspects of individual and Church activities, including religious education. That is why the programme consists of a significant number of philosophical and historical subjects but also of the subjects related to pedagogy, psychology, catechetics and special didactics. The study of classical languages is of a propaedeutic character. The methodology of study, diploma thesis and research is provided, too. The study is concluded by the final state exam, which has five parts: Holy Scripture and Biblical Theology; Fundamental and Dogmatic Theology; Moral and Spiritual Theology; Pastoral Theology and Canon law; Examination of the MA Thesis. Through this study programme, the Catholic Church implements its right to teach and educate its ordained and lay workers (§ 6 par. 3 letter a) of Act No. 3/2002 Coll., On Freedom of Religious Confession and the Position of Churches and Religious Societies).

Graduate profile for the public:
The graduates have theoretical knowledge, practical skills and methodological proficiency in the subject Catholic Theology. They are familiar with related religious, ethical and civil attitudes. They know the regulations of the Catholic Church as well as the legislation concerning the position and activities of churches and religious societies in the Czech Republic. They are prepared for pastoral and charitable work in Church institutions as well as in educational, health, social and humanitarian institutions and organisations; the work of a teacher of Religious Education and an educator in schools and educational institutions and social work institutions (§ 14 and 16 of Act No. 563/2004 Coll., On Pedagogical Staff); the jobs in the organs of public administration and public service institutions, publishing houses and editorial offices, firms and companies which require religious and humane knowledge and approaches.
