SP characteristics

Social and cultural ecology deals with the fundamental change, that world has passed through in recent decades. Problems of a global dimension that we all share were created, locally we have often irreparably damaged the nature, the landscape and we are destroying many species of organisms. The causes lie in our industry and progress-driven mentality, in the development of science, technology and standards of living, but also in our behavior. By destroying nature as a source and environment we are harming ourselves and our children. The solution is not militant attitudes but the genuine quality of life based on principles of sustainable development and respecting diversity of cultures and minorities. Thus, social and cultural ecology does not explicitly address technique and technology but asks about preconditions for their formation; it does not test students from detailed knowledge of the Earth species but identifies the key ones for maintaining ecosystems that should be preserved and those "just" beautiful. It teaches concepts and methods for understanding and handling global and local problems ("Think globally, act locally, change individually"). Are Greenpeace modern terrorists? Are plastics sorted or scraped? How to manage bark beetle, highway construction or supermarket project in a city orchard? You will learn these and much more when studying social and cultural ecology!
