SP characteristics
The interconnection of individual and collective aspects of understanding the recent past lies at the heart of the Oral History – Contemporary History study programme. The focal point here is the human individual, conceived as an acting subject in both past and present dimensions. Oral history represents an ideal device for grasping the issue, because it covers especially the so called “small history”, “history from below”, “everyday history”, “history of dailiness” and historical memory studies, emphasizing the individual aspects of experiencing and perceiving history.
The study programme is based on methodology of historiography and emphasis is placed also on the knowledge of Czechoslovak, Czech and world contemporary historical context. Apart from oral history the study programme therefore incorporates from the methodological point of view also other approaches, which are critically considered and mutually compared. These represent especially the archival research, capitalizing on statistical data (for instance of demographic or economical nature or public opinion surveys), popular culture research (radio and movie recordings), media and literary research etc.
