SP characteristics

The Master Programme Sociology of Contemporary Societies offers up-to-date expertise, develops the methodological and analytical skills of students, and enables them to explore and understand the social processes taking place in the contemporary world: their roots, meanings and contexts, including trends or potentialities of future development. The curriculum is oriented to sociological and social anthropological theory and methodology. In addition to introducing the general theoretical and methodological questions of quantitative and qualitative research, it provides space for reflection on alternatives to the organization of contemporary societies, the vertical and horizontal mobility within them, and the lifestyles recorded. The study is designed in such a way that the acquired knowledge is well applicable either in the Czech Republic or abroad. Students can choose one of four specializations: 1. Civil Society and Politics; 2. Anthropology of Space and Mobility; 3. Identities, Health and Bodies; 4. Double Degree in Sociology of Contemporary Societies. In these specializations, they acquire a broad and deep knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and methods corresponding to the current state of knowledge. Their skills enable them independently solve professional tasks and to work on research projects.

Graduate profile for the public:
Graduates of the study program Sociology of Contemporary Societies know in detail the paradigms and theoretical concepts of contemporary social sciences. They can independently design and carry out basic and applied sociological and social anthropological research and can interpret data from quantitative and qualitative surveys. They can solve tasks of their branches independently using theoretical and practical knowledge and coordinate the work of the team in solving their tasks. Graduates of this program are welcomed in universities, research institutes, research agencies dealing with public opinion, market, media, life style, migration movements and social mobility research. They can also be employed as specialists for solving social problems, complex social situations and communication with the public in various environments (education, state and public administration, the non-profit sector, corporate organizations). The study program allows them to specialize in a specific area of ​​social issues and become a highly knowledgeable personality during their studies. Studying Sociology of Contemporary Societies opens up opportunities for students to continue their postgraduate education anywhere in the world.
