SP characteristics

Doctoral studies cover general subjects and skills required for scientific research work and critical thinking as well as specialised studies on clinical biochemistry, focused on human body metabolism, especially in critical situations and severe diseases. Interactions of medicinal drugs and human body is another important topic, including the detection of drugs of abuse.
Molecular biology as well as an experimental work in vivarium are common technologies; clinical studies and indispensable part of the program.
Student will gain detailed knowledge of clinical biochemistry and precision – personalized medicine, metabolism of humans as well as practical skills from research and clinical laboratory. The study also includes basics of analytical methods. Pathobiochemistry and Clinical Biochemistry are included according the future students` focusing on theoretical or clinical medicine. Standard length of study is 4 years, study is concluded by defending of the thesis, absolvent is awarded the title „Ph.D.“.

A graduate of DSP Clinical Biochemistry is a highly qualified expert who is versatile for further work at an academia or research with a biomedical focus. S/he has a detailed knowledge of human metabolism and clinical laboratory. This knowledge is applied during research work in clinical laboratory. S/he has acquired the skills and methodology used in biomedical research and laboratory medicine. S/he can independently and critically evaluate new findings in accordance with evidence-based principles of medicine, propose a scientific experiment to solve scientific questions of a clinical biochemistry, prepare a grant application for research support, manage a small team, interpret, discuss and present the results of the scientific work.
