The aim of the postgraduate programme "Social Work" is to prepare top experts in the field of social work who are competent in research methods and can develop concepts, strategies and evaluations for the development of social programmes, policies and services, of which social work is a part.
In view of social and demographic changes, the need for professionals who are able to develop concepts, strategies and evaluations for the development of social programmes, policies and services involving social work will increase. The members of the academic board and the supervisors have strong links with both governmental bodies and non-profit sector organizations in their roles as experts and researchers, and can continuously contribute their expertise to shaping the direction of the program and monitoring the content of the dissertations. The members of the Board are also international experts who contribute to anchoring the academic orientation of the programme in the broader context of the development of European society.

Graduate profile for the public:
The graduates have the ability of conducting independent scientific research and independent creative activities in the field of research and development, they can design and use advanced research procedures in a way that enables the expansion of the current state of knowledge and advances professional competences and forms of social service delivery.
They have knowledge of research methods and their application in the field of social work, in particular they apply procedures suitable for complex analysis of social problems and phenomena relevant to social work.
The graduates are able to:
- develop theoretical concepts and perform academic tasks at university level in the field of social work and its applied areas;
- coordinate conceptual and analytical work in management positions in social work organisations;
- share their own expertise clearly and effectively with members of the research community internationally and with the general public;
- evaluate the relevance of major theories and methods of social work and apply them appropriately and specifically in various historical and contemporary contexts of respective social service areas.
The graduates
- understand and apply the main research methods used in the social sciences and explain the possibilities, conditions and specifics of their use in social work;
- will be able to scientifically evaluate changes and developments in social policies in the Czech Republic and in the EU and identify their significance for the field under research;
- will identify and substantiate different procedures of assessing the needs of individuals, families, groups, communities or workers of organisations of which social work is a part;
- are able to discuss and defend a variety of methods of assessing the process and effect of social programmes, policies and services of which social work is a part.
