Graduate profile for the public:
A graduate of the Applied Ethics study programme is primarily competent in the field of philosophy, and is therefore well versed in ethics as a philosophical discipline, hermeneutic ethics and applied ethics, and can work with primary and secondary philosophical texts. He/she is familiar with the principles and methods of scientific work, follows the latest scientific trends and seeks new, original solutions and approaches to the issues under study. With respect for the already known facts, he/she is proficient in the professional interpretation of texts and consequently is able to formulate his/her own opinions on the chosen and solved problem of an ethical nature. He is capable of his own argument-based new interpretations. The student extends, refines, and enriches his/her basic grounding in philosophy with methods and methods of work from the social sciences or psychology, depending on the focus of his/her particular research project. In this case, he/she acquires knowledge of epistemology, sociology, anthropology, thus expanding his/her professional competences by understanding the significance of sociological and social anthropological theories for the interpretation of the processes of social practice. The philosophical foundation of a particular research is thus expanded by the necessary systematic knowledge of the concepts, approaches and methods that accompany the study of ethics. If required by the content and intent of the subject under study, he or she may have mastered quantitative and qualitative research methods, possibly even experimental methods and ways of processing and interpreting the data obtained, and in the case of a psychology major, also knowledge of the research procedures used in psychology, thus being able to understand the ethical dimension of psychological practice. This expanded knowledge then allows one to competently evaluate empirical research, select and apply appropriate theory to analyze the problem. This enrichment of the basic philosophical competence with methods and procedures of work from the social sciences and/or psychology also leads to mastering the theoretical and practical form of teaching applied ethics, in relation to one's basic professional field.
