SP characteristics

The study program Journalism, Media and Globalization is a paid follow-up Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree Master's program. The program has been operating since 2005. A consortium of academic institutions leads the program. Among the members of the consortium are six degree-awarding partners: Aarhus University (program coordinator), The Danish School of Media and Journalism, Institut komunikačních studií a žurnalistiky FSV UK, City University London, University of Amsterdam, LMU Munich. Additionally, the consortium has seven non-European credit-awarding partners: the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Technology Sydney, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, University of Cape Town, Fudan University, Lebanese American University, University of Hamburg. Around 80-95 students study annually in the program. All students spend their first year in Aarhus. They study at one of the partners degree-awarding universities in the second year. A top of that, all students can study during the second semester at one of the partners credit-awarding universities. The program is designed to prepare graduates for the work of journalists in a globalized society. The program aims to provide graduates with an understanding and analytical tools for theoretical understanding and practical understanding of rapidly transforming media.

Graduate profile for the public:
Graduate knows both practical and theoretical procedures in the field, basic theoretical concepts, methods of analysis of media production, audience, and the role of media in society. She/He is capable of visualizing particular issues and being able to independently define them, theoretically and practically grasp and analyze concrete phenomena of the development and presence of media and communication in the globalized world by analytical methods. The graduate has the knowledge that enables her/him to theoretically reflect on this profession and acquire concepts focusing on interpreting changes and developments in communication and media in a globalized world. The graduate is familiar with the different directions in media communication development. The graduate is ready for the profession of journalist, foreign correspondent, editor, visual journalist, media analyst, and other positions in the media market and applied research.
