SP characteristics

The follow-up Masters study programme of Applied physiotherapy at the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University is unique due to its focus on the rehabilitation process in patients after brain damage (following a cerebrovascular accident, head injury, brain tumour, etc.). The clinical base of the General University Hospital provides the students with a great scope of physiotherapy clinical education in all core medical fields as well as in many more, such as palliative medicine, oncology, geriatrics, nutritional counselling, etc. The education includes the basics of management and legislation which are necessary for facility/team leadership or running an own practice. The emphasis is on the physiotherapists’ scientific research, basic compilation of professional articles, preparation of lectures, structuring applications of a professional project or grant.

Graduate profile for the public:
The Graduates obtain special qualification to practice the occupation of the specialist physiotherapist. They are authorized to perform activity in prophylaxis, diagnosis and therapy of diseases, mainly those of the locomotor system, in the field of applied physiotherapy. They are able to work with patients with a wide scope of diagnoses across all clinical branches, including patients with neurological conditions (e.g. after a CVA, head injury, brain tumour), using a variety of special methods and procedures as well as advanced technology. The can advise patients as well as athletes in nutrition and exercise. They assess the changes to the locomotor system in relation to the individual’s psychology, and are able to apply the principles of mental hygiene and manage stress. They have a good command of compilation of professional texts, can prepare a lecture for a professional conference and compile an application for the project or grant. A graduate can work in health as well as social care system, at in-patient as well as out-patient facilities, in hospitals or private-owned facilities, in spas or rehabilitation sanatoria.
