„Russian Studies (study programme named after Boris Nemtsov)“ is a two-year master’s degree study programme conducted in Russian with an assumed relevant offer of compulsory and optional lectures and seminars in English. The study programme focuses on the study of Russia with an emphasis on the period after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The study plan consists of a few compulsory subjects, representing methodological and theoretically conceived introductions to profile scientific disciplines, as well as of thematic blocks of compulsory optional subjects with a variable offer of lectures and seminars (society, internal politics and economy of post-Soviet Russia; Russian foreign policy after the collapse USSR; language and symbols of modern Russian politics, culture and identity; journalism and mass media in post-Soviet Russia). The general goal of the two-year master’s degree study programme „Russian Studies (study programme named after Boris Nemtsov)“ is the education of qualified experts who can work both in the commercial sphere (Russian and foreign economic entities, tourism), and in state bodies of various levels, in non-governmental organizations and in media focused on the Russian-speaking environment or the post-Soviet space. The two-year master’s degree study programme „Russian Studies (study programme named after Boris Nemtsov)“ is open to all interested applicants with at least a bachelor's degree. The prerequisite is knowledge of English at least at B2 level (according to SERR), orientation in the history of Russia and detailed orientation in the political and social realities of contemporary Russia.

A graduate of the two-year master’s degree study programme Russian Studies (study programme named after Boris Nemtsov) is able to independently analyze changes in Russian society, foreign policy, economy, journalism, media scene and political and constitutional system from 1991 to the present in an international context, he/she is equipped with the competence of critical work with information sources, he/she orients in the latest professional literature and methodological approaches, he/she is ready to continue his/her postgraduate studies in foreign language (Russian, English) doctoral study programmes focused on the study of Russia and Eastern Europe with an appropriate methodological base (especially history, political science, sociology). The knowledge and skills acquired during the course of study enable the graduate of the two-year master’s degree study programme Russian Studies (study programme named after Boris Nemtsov) to participate in the activities of domestic and foreign organizations focusing on Russia, the post-Soviet space or Russian-speaking communities outside of Russia, to work in the sphere of economic relations and tourism, in traditional and new media, in state bodies and in non-governmental organizations. A graduate of the two-year master’s degree study programme Russian Studies (study programme named after Boris Nemtsov) is prepared to work in international professional teams and for project activities, to process analytical and informational materials on the issue of post-Soviet Russia and its relations with the world.
