The Dental Hygiene study program will enable students to acquire university education to the extent necessary for providing health care in the field of dental medicine focusing on oral hygiene, prevention of tooth decay and periodontitis, also performing active search of pathological lesions of the soft tissues in oral cavity. In the field of dental medicine it allows the graduate medical staff to work closely with a dental general practitioner to influence actively oral hygiene in our patients of all ages.
The acquired expertise and skills will be applied in the area of patients care and education for them to achieve good oral health and adhere to effective preventive measures against tooth decay and periodontitis. This makes the specialization very useful and indispensable, which helps to prolong oral health and preserve the dentition to the high age. It extends the biological factor of the teeth and the functionality of the periodontists as a whole in order to strengthen the working and social position of individuals in old age. The acquired medical knowledge and skills can also be applied by the graduates in the care of patients with serious illness, long-term hospitalized patients and patients in home care.
Knowledge of DH Bachelors allows to ensure systemic preventive care to preschool and school age children, when habits associated with oral hygiene forge and are transferred to the subconscious throughout the life of the individual and it is crucial to motivate him or her as a future parent for the proper education of the new child population. Dental hygienist together with the dentist helps significantly with the health care of the oral cavity of handicapped patients of all ages. Particularly this part of the work is very creditable and for ordinary dental office mostly impossible.

Graduate profile for the public:
A graduate in the educational program is ready to perform the work of the medical staff independently performing medical and preventive care within the scope of its professional competence provided by Act No 96/2004 Coll., Act on the Conditions for Obtaining and Recognizing the Ability to Exercise Non-medical Health Professions and to Exercise Activities Related to the Provision of Health Care and on Amendments to Certain Related Acts (Act on Non-medical Health Professions), Decree of the Ministry of Health No 55/2011 Coll., laying down the activities of the medical staff and other professional staff, as amended, and Decree of the Ministry of Health No 39/2005 Coll., laying down minimum requirements for educational programs to acquire professional competence for the performance of a non-medical profession, as amended.
The graduate is educated to acquire not only professional knowledge, skills and habits but also broader general knowledge in the field of science and humanities and skills important for further education and employment in the labour market. The graduate has the prerequisites for managing work in a team of dental hygienists and other nursing staff in dentistry, for cooperation with staff in other dental offices and for further personal professional growth. The graduates are educated and prepared to contribute to increase the prestige of the profession of dental hygienists by the quality of their work and their attitudes. During the course the students acquire, apart from the appropriate knowledge and skills in the said field, also the knowledge in the field of economy, law, insurance and management.
Professional competence of dental hygienists (their knowledge and skills at the end of studies) are based on the valid legal acts of the Czech Republic and are divided into basic, specialized and highly specialized according to the basic functions they should fulfil.
The graduate is educated to acquire not only professional knowledge, skills and habits but also broader general knowledge in the field of science and humanities and skills important for further education and employment in the labour market. The graduate has the prerequisites for managing work in a team of dental hygienists and other nursing staff in dentistry, for cooperation with staff in other dental offices and for further personal professional growth.
