The doctoral program primarily aims at graduates from teacher preparation programs in mathematics and computer science, enabling them to deepen their knowledge from master's programs, and take part in ongoing research. The program focuses on elementary mathematics and computer science, their history, as well as teaching. In elementary mathematics and computer science, the emphasis is placed on topics that connect and extend both high-school and university curricula. In history, attention is paid especially to the 19th and 20th centuries, Czech mathematics and computer science. Didactics focuses on recent trends in teaching, the use of digital technology in education, and related topics.

The graduates possess a knowledge of university mathematics/computer science, and are familiar with the history of the subject. Their skills acquired in the master's program have been deepened and extended in the area related to their dissertation thesis. They are also acquainted with important methods in the education of mathematics or computer science, and generally qualified for teaching positions. They are able to teach basic university courses in mathematics or computer science, and are ready to work with talented high-schools students. They follow the latest developments in their disciplines, and communicate their knowledge in the form of lectures, textbooks, and research or expository articles.
