SP characteristics
Studying in the Sociology doctoral study program at FSV UK prepares students for work in both basic and applied research at universities and research institutes, as well as in other institutions that require a high degree of theoretical and methodological education in the field of sociology, or in related fields. The study in the doctoral study program is open: anyone who has completed university studies at the master's degree level (or the equivalent) can apply. The study program directly connects postgraduate education and research not only at the faculty, but also at the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences. It is thus able to provide its students with a wide range of possible research topics and gives them real opportunities in research teams. In this respect, it is the result of a synergy between two important sociological institutions. The core of the study program lies in the theoretically relevant research, which defines basic research in the social sciences. As a result, research projects are framed by current disciplinary debates and seek to make significant disciplinary contributions. In line with the current understanding of the role of social sciences, the emphasis is also placed on the social relevance of the doctoral projects.

Graduate profile for the public:
The graduate of the doctoral study in Sociology at FSV UK is capable of scientific and pedagogical work in both basic and applied research, at universities and in other areas that require a high degree of theoretical and methodological education in the field of sociology. As experts, they are able to recognize, research and analyze social problems, view them in their development and compare them across societies. Graduates have the appropriate theoretical and methodological knowledge and skills, can apply theoretical guidelines in the interpretation of information, can classify this information, analyze it using standard methods and present the results in accordance with the research questions and the requirements of their social environment. In this regard, they are able to respond not only to the requirements of the academic environment, but to any organization that requires the ability of analysis and its coherent presentation. Sociology graduates are capable of critical reflection and insight. Thanks to this, they can not only successfully complete a given assignment, e.g. from corporate clients, but also think "outside the box" and ask new questions. They are able to contribute to teamwork and publish the results of their research work with respect to the target group. On the one hand, they can structure the scientific article, on the other hand, they can adapt the report to the requirements of the state administration, non-profit sector or a business company.
