SP characteristics

The study program offers the most complex and compact bachelor study of geosciences in the Czech Republic and is focused on to gain basic knowledge and skills in wide range of main geological disciplines. It is structured from traditional branches, such as general geology, mineralogy, petrology, palaeontology, structural geology, geochemistry, economic geology, hydrogeology and geophysics, towards their modern applications. It comprises theoretical subjects and practical field and laboratory training. The study of the bachelor level in Geology is based on a long tradition and is regularly upgraded. Its quality is ensured by the largest team of academic educators in geosciences in the Czech Republic complemented by external staff. It provides a guarantee that the subject is taught by specialist who makes his research in that field. The tradition is an individual approach to the student and the involvement of gifted students in scientific research from the beginning of their studies.

Graduate profile for the public:
The graduate will gain basic knowledge in all principal geological branches and will be trained to use them in theoretical and practical ways. The graduate is able to make a qualified documentation and sampling in the field, and also search for published as well as unpublished data from various sources. The graduate is capable to work with these data, evaluate and interpret them. Based on it, the graduate is qualified to study and assess different parameters of the rock environment, including those of a technical character, such as a rock composition, processes of their formation, their deformations, age or palaeontological contents. The graduate is also able to study and document a substance migration through the rock environment and its interactions with hydro-, atmo-, and biosphere. The graduate has an expertise on the exploitation but also on a protection of the rock environment. Thus, the graduate is trained to make qualified documentations and technical works, to participate in partial research projects under the supervision of specialists and to work as a technician in laboratories oriented on the geological research in state institutions, private exploration companies, in the state administration or to continue in the follow-up study programs.
