SP characteristics
The Bachelor Degree study of Humanities and Social Sciences (taught in Czech) is a university-level study focused on history, philosophy, and social sciences (cultural and social anthropology, psychology, sociology). The study programme does not provide such an extensive knowledge of these disciplines as ordinary specialized programs, but instead, it teaches students to understand these disciplines as a baseline for interdisciplinarity, giving the students an overview that is difficult to obtain in specialized and more focused studies. This study program emphasizes the development of language competencies, but its significant feature is a widely opened study schedule that allows students to pursue their individual abilities and develop their interests. By properly choosing courses during the study, students can gradually specialize and focus either on further (Master's) study in any of the relative theoretical branches or on the practical use of acquired skills, e.g. in the field of public and local administration, public relations, media, etc. The design of this study program is based on the conviction that graduates with an interdisciplinary overview and wide-ranging focus will find better career opportunities than graduates of narrowly defined disciplines because they are able to react more flexibly to changing labor market requirements.

Graduate profile for the public:
Our graduates are well-educated and have professional knowledge about fields of history, philosophy, and social sciences; they are proficient in one or more foreign languages, including the skill of translating specialized academic texts, and the ability to express themselves both succinctly and convincingly. The competencies they have acquired emphasize independence, responsibility, and resourcefulness. In the course of their study as well as when writing their BA thesis, our graduates gained a deeper specialized knowledge and skills in one of the humanities or social sciences, and thus are well-prepared to continue with a follow-up master’s course of study in their chosen discipline.
