SP characteristics
The basic strategic objective of excellent records services, records management offices and archives of all types is regulated by Act No. 499/2004 Sb., on Archives and Records Service and on the amendment to certain acts and other regulations. Employment in records services and archiving in public administration should and can go beyond the ability to apply knowledge dutifully; it should be a true profession. Professionals with first-rate qualifications in the field need to possess a wide spectrum of skills and expertise in state administration and local government, a knowledge of the history and the present structure and organization of administration at all levels in addition to a grounding in law and economics. The work involves, on the one hand, a wide spectrum of organizational and cultural responsibilities for the management, saving and selection of traditional (analogue) and electronic documents, and the management and use of documents of permanent value (that will become archive items in the future); on the other hand, professionals in the field need to possess skills in professional communication, basic skills in organization management and IT. The aim of the follow-up Master’s study programme in Public Administration and Records Management is to train graduates for work especially in bodies of public administration, i.e. state administration and local government at all levels, in public service institutions, cultural institutions and organizations, non-governmental and non-profit organizations and in the commercial sector, providing graduates with qualifications for work with analogue and electronic documents produced by public service institutions and private entities, which requires a profound knowledge of public administration, law and economics.
