SP characteristics
Computational linguistics is an interdisciplinary scientific field involving mathematics (including topics such as discrete mathematics, statistics and probability), computer science (e.g. algorithmization, machine learning, artificial intelligence) and classical linguistics (e.g. morphology, syntax, language typology). Computational linguistics investigates language from a formal point of view, and it aims at developing methods that could be used in software applications in the field of Natural Language Processing, in which languages in their spoken or written form are handled.

Graduate profile for the public:
Graduates of this study program possess theoretical knowledge as well as practical experience concerning description of natural languages and applications of natural language processing, and are able to apply them during development, implementation and evaluation of experiments in this field. In addition, they gain detailed knowledge focused on specific linguistic or computational aspects of the field during their study. The graduates can apply the results of their study in industrial companies in the Czech Republic or abroad, above all in those specialized in processing written or spoken language data; this applies to research, development, maintenance or usage of such systems. The graduates can also work in basic research or as lecturers.
