SP characteristics

It is an interdisciplinary study branch which connects classical physics (particularly continuum mechanics and thermodynamics) with mathematical analysis and numerical mathematics. The student should go through the construction or understanding of the physical model, its mathematical analysis up to its numerical solution.
Due to the complexity of problems studied both in the research and in the praxis a closed colaboration among specialist from different areas is needed. Typically, the physicists and engineers contruct the models and mathematicians study the mathematical properties of the models and solve the models numerically. These specialists often use different languages to describe the same problem. The graduates of this programme should be able to communicate with all of them and are therefore prepared to lead such groups. Moreover, they should also be prepared to solve simpler problems by themselves: from the construction of the model through its analysis up to its numerical solution.

Graduate profile for the public:
The holder of the diploma graduated from the doctoral study programme which is focused on the modelling in classical physics, especially in continuum mechanics and thermodynamics with possible applications in material science, geophysics, biology and medicine. Due to the subject of the doctoral thesis the graduate studied the problem deeper either from the point of view of physics, i.e., his/her thesis was mainly devoted to the construction and verification of different models of continuum physics, or from the point of view of mathematics, i.e. his/her thesis was mainly devoted to the mathematical analysis or numerical solution of these models. The graduates of the programme have good knowledge in mathematics, physics and scientific computations and they are able to formulate, analyze and numerically solve real world problems. They can find occupation either in academia or in commercial sphere.
