SP characteristics

The master studies of classical archaeology focus on a more detailed knowledge of archaeology and art in one of the two main areas of the classical world: Italy or Greece, principally in the Iron Age and in historical periods. The students specialise either in purely art-historical issues, or in archaeology of Greece or Italy and its relationship to the neighbouring cultures; or in the archaeology of Roman provinces. In order to further develop their knowledge of archaeological theory and method, courses in archaeology of Central-European later prehistory, and on the aspects of classical tradition in European art are also compulsory; they likewise broaden their skills in both modern and ancient languages. The aim of the whole concept is to train the students towards a scholarly autonomy, which will permit them to work as full-fledged field and theoretical archaeologists or as research employees of archaeological or national heritage institutions and museums.
