SP characteristics
This study programme is intended to follow on from the Bachelor’s study programme Protestant Theology. It provides a deeper insight into all the classical theological disciplines. Students work with biblical and related non-biblical texts in the original languages, acquire a mastery of the rules of hermeneutics, and work intensively with the skills and knowledge acquired earlier in interpreting texts and applying them in practice. They acquire a mastery of the interpretation of the full range of the Christian tradition, with an emphasis on a knowledge of Czech history in the European and world context. The aim is to reflect on theological insights from an ecumenical perspective, taking into account ethical and social issues, and also the present-day form and praxis of Christianity, especially in the Czech and European setting. The study programme also covers the phenomenon of world religions and culture, interreligious dialogue, and a critical reflection on contemporary philosophical and religious intellectual trends. The study programme develops students’ ability to carry out independent research work, using the methods that are usual in the humanities and other related disciplines.

Graduate profile for the public:
Graduates of the Master’s study programme Protestant Theology are equipped with a wide-ranging knowledge of Christian theology in its historical, systematic, and practical dimensions. They are capable of working with biblical texts in the original languages and are proficient in the hermeneutics of Christian texts, with a particular emphasis on the tradition of the Bohemian and European Reformations. They are prepared for working in dialogue with other Christian traditions, with philosophy, and with the social sciences. They are familiar with the phenomenology of religion, with the traditional world religions, and with new religious movements. They can make use of their studies in the service of their churches as ministers, in catechetical, educational and pastoral work (in prisons, the army, and the health service), and also in the social and cultural fields and in public administration, where the emphasis is on working with people and an education in the humanities is required.
