SP characteristics
The study programme Ecological and Evolutionary Biology produces experts in Life Sciences, especially in the field of diversity, ecology and evolution of living organisms, including evaluation of human activities on free-living species and natural ecosystems. The programme integrates theoretical knowledge on the biodiversity and ecology of organisms, general principles of biology and practical skills of the field and laboratory work. The programme also emphasizes ecology and diversity of organisms in combination with basics of Earth and environmental sciences. Therefore, the graduates are complex and flexible experts that apply their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in tasks performed at various levels of human interactions with free-living organisms.
Regarding the vast expanse of the contemporary ecological and evolutionary biology the curriculum is largely focused on academic courses and seminars. However, there are also a number of elective practical subjects, such as the field courses and laboratory practises (microscopy; cultivation, growing and breeding of organisms). The programme is continuously absorbing new trends of the biological research in ecology and evolution, such as the progress in the knowledge of biodiversity and ecological processes at the level of ecosystems and the biosphere.

Graduate profile for the public:
The graduates of Ecological and Evolutionary Biology have a comprehensive biological education focused on diversity, ecology and evolution of organisms. Besides that she/he is acquainted with main subjects of general biology and the basics of Earth and environmental sciences. This curriculum provides a solid foundation for a subsequent study in ecological or evolutionary biological programmes. The graduates also get jobs in scientific institutions, in companies dealing with plant cultivation or animal breeding, in zoological and botanical gardens, as well as in non-governmental and private sector focused on ecological biology and biodiversity, such as the nature protection, water quality management and ecological restoration.
