SP characteristics
The studies of physiotherapy have a long tradition at the Third Faculty of Medicine at Charles University. They were founded in 1992 by Professor Vladimír Janda who elaborated the concept of muscle imbalance that has become the basis of contemporary rehabilitation. His legacy is gradually being developed and reflects on the profiling of the studies – musculoskeletal medicine. The faculty also held Associate Professor František Véle who extended the studies with modern trends in neurorehabilitation.
A high level of studies is ensured by the quality of academic staff who teach core subjects such as anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology. Further we maintain co-operation with the best clinical workplaces which allow students to develop their practical skills on a wide range of different clinical diagnosis (University Hospital Královské Vinohrady in Prague, Thomayer Hospital, Military University Hospital in Prague). The teaching is provided by top experts and specialists in the field. We co-operate with many foreign workplaces, too. We lead our students to critical thinking and scientific work.
The aim of the study program is to educate a qualified specialist – a Bachelor of physiotheraphy – who will be entitled to work as a non-medical worker in the field of preventive treatment in physiotherapy as a part of Rehabilitation and physical medicine at the corresponding health-care workplaces providing inpatient and outpatient care in the state as well as private sector to the extent specified in Decree No 55/2011 Article 25 and the Law No 96/2004, as amended.
