SP characteristics

Bachelor study programme Hydrology and Hydrogeology has an interdisciplinary character and allows an integral connection of so far separately taught geoscience disciplines: physical geography, hydrology, climatology, hydrogeology, geomorphology and geochemistry. The program enables the preparation of students focused on strategically important area of use and protection of water resources, whereas its unique feature is the integration of knowledge in the field of surface and underground waters. Acquired comprehensive expertise in the area of occurrence, circulation, contamination and surface and underground water protection combined with practical knowledge enables high-quality jobs for the graduates of the bachelor study programme in a variety of fields, especially in the field of public administration, land and water management planning, water resource management and in research organizations.
The interdisciplinary character of the study integrates the knowledge of geology, geography and environmental sciences, along with the background of leading research institutes of the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague, and provides the students with the possibility of further specialized education in follow-up study levels in related geoscience fields.

Graduate profile for the public:
The graduate has an interdisciplinary knowledge of basic geosciences and natural sciences with an emphasis on the occurrence, circulation, contamination and the protection of surface and uderground waters. Understands the theoretical basics of disciplines necessary for understanding, analysis and interpretation of the processes and mechanisms related to the occurrence and circulation of water in the landscape, and their anthropogenic influence. Has a practical knowledge of modern research methods and application of geoinformation technology applications to analyze processes, and skills in using modern devices for laboratory and field research. The graduate is able to work independently by dealing with basic analytical tasks in the field of water management and to solve specialized technical and preparatory works within the hydrological and water management studies, including projects dealing with the protection of water resources.
