SP characteristics

Master's degree program in Astronomy and Astrophysics enhances basic knowledge of physics, mathematics and programming. Students are led to understand the basics of classical astronomy, i.e. astrometry and celestial mechanics, and the basics of classical astrophysics, i.e. plasma physics in space, stellar structure and evolution, stellar atmosphere theory, solar system physics, and galaxy structure and dynamics. They also learn about solar physics, relativistic astrophysics, extragalactic astronomy and cosmology. Through regular seminars, diploma theses, practice on observatories and thematic lectures of external experts, students acquire an idea of current problems solved in individual fields of astronomy and astrophysics and methods of scientific work.

Graduate profile for the public:
Graduates have advanced knowledge in the main areas of classical and modern astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology, leaning on a reliable foundation in general areas of physics - theoretical mechanics, quantum physics, thermodynamics, statistical physics and general theory of relativity. They have an overview of modern observation techniques and methods, are ready for analysis of observation data and creation of numerical models. They are also adept at communicating expertise in the form of presentations or written texts, also in English. Most graduates are expected to enter the career of a researcher. Acquired general education in physics allows graduates to apply also in related fields and wherever abstract thinking or solution of challenging problems is required.
