SP characteristics

SP Environmental Protection uses and combines the knowledge and methods of many related fields of science, especially geology, chemistry, zoology, botany, ecology or informatics, and thus provides opportunity for a wide range of student interests. The combination of a common basic courses and a flexible optional subjects educates professionals profiled into individual environmental components and their chemical and/or biological analysis. The study plan enables the students deeper knowledge gained during their bachelor's studies and to profile students in one of the main environmental fields: atmosphere and air protection; protection and use of water resources; applied ecology and nature conservation; biodiversity studies; soil protection, reclamation and revitalization; waste management and disposal; contamination and analysis of environmental components; health aspects of environmental protection. Students will gain a broad theoretical basis, as well as they will learn to apply the knowledge to specific examples of environmental protection. During the course, students acquire a wide range of analytical, biological, statistical and geoinformation methods used in environmental analysis.

Graduate profile for the public:
The graduate acquires broad professional knowledge of natural sciences (ecology, biology, chemistry, geology, geography) and selected social sciences, he/she can use analytical, biological, statistical and geoinformation methods. The graduate is profiled into individual environmental components (water, soil, air, biosphere) and their chemical (ecotoxicology, remediation) or biological (biodiversity) analysis. The wide theoretical basis and the ability to apply the acquired knowledge to specific examples of environmental protection enable graduates to solve their theoretical and practical environmental problems in practice.
Typical applications of the graduates are in the government and the non-governmental sectors dealing with the management, utilization and restoration of the natural environment and natural resources, in specialized companies with technologies that can influence the environment, in companies focused on the management and protection of natural resources, including reclamation, remediation and removal of environmental burdens. Graduates can find work in laboratories and other institutions specialized in environmental analysis. Finally, graduates can participate on basic and applied research that involves collecting or analyzing environmental data or solving environmental problems in a variety of ways. Graduates are able to respond to scientific developments. They are able to define assignments for professional activities and reflect ethical problems. They are able to communicate in English and convey their own professional opinions to experts. They are ready to continue in following doctoral programs in CR or abroad.
