SP characteristics

The study programme prepares specialists who bring technical solutions for people with disabilities, including the application of equipment for general use and sport. Graduates must be able to distinguish between different types of disabilities and various types of equipment. They must be theoretically prepared to design, apply, produce and modify this equipment.

Graduate profile for the public:
The Study programme prepares specialists who bring technical solutions for people with disabilities, including the application of equipment for general use and sport. This activity can be performed in state and non-state health facilities such as clinics, specialized workplaces focusing on congenital or acquired musculoskeletal disorders, rehabilitation institutes, spa facilities, pain treatment workplaces, specialized facilities for children and seniors with musculoskeletal disorders, specialized sports facilities for people with specific needs, workplaces dealing with production and application of orthotic and prosthetic equipment. Graduates can also be employed as specialists in health insurance companies or government departments dealing with medical equipment.

Professional knowledge is based on the 6th EQF (European Qualification Framework).

The graduate has advanced knowledge in the fundamental theories and principles necessary for the profession of orthotics - prothetics and further education in the area.
• The graduate has an advanced knowledge in theories, examinations and interventions of persons with a wide range of medical diagnoses connected with musculoskeletal disorders including orthotic and prosthetic restorations or supplements.
• The graduate helps to create constructional solutions of particular orthotic and prosthetic equipment in the area including the use of technologies for scanning specific data.
• The graduate independently elaborates technical data and he or she is well informed about technical data and prosthetic manuals.
• The graduate has a knowledge of the research ethics, its organization and in qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection and analysis of orthotics and prosthetics
• The graduate has a knowledge in the area of physical activity of people with disabilities.
• The graduate has an advanced knowledge of the various types of disabilities.
• The graduate has an advanced knowledge of various types of medical equipment.
• The graduate has an advanced knowledge of psychosocial, cognitive and physical problems in relation to movement dysfunction of patients or clients.
• The graduate has a knowledge of the management and medical documentation also the one based on special legal regulations.

Professional skills

The expert knowledge is based on the 6th EQF (European Qualification Framework). The graduate gained an advanced skills required for solving complex problems especially of the musculoskeletal system during the orthotics – prosthetics performance.
• The graduate has an advanced both theoretical and practical skills in designing, applying, producing and modifying the required equipment.
• The graduate has the advanced skills in communication with other health care experts on the professional level, including the ability to apply the doctors´ suggestions in the area of orthotics and prosthetics.
• The graduate has the combined knowledge of the use of medical, social, educational, working and technical means suitable for regaining the highest possible level of functional ability and active life of the patient (client).
• The graduate has an advanced knowledge in educating and guiding the client, the responsible staff when using the orthotic and prosthetic equipment.
• The graduate has an advanced skills in forming research questions, preparing a research proposal, selecting the suitable research methods, analyzing the collected research data and its transmitting.
• The graduate is introduced the issue of documentation check and communication during the orthotics – prosthetics research.
• The graduate has an advanced skills related to ethical and professional behavior of orthotics – prosthetics specialist.
