      Modelled on the Oxford PPE (BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics), the Prague BA in PPE is an English language undergraduate study program. It allows students to explore foundations of domestic and international politics and economics in a manner that is underpinned by philosophical rigour and includes courses aimed at fostering critical thinking about social developments in the world and sensitivity to ethical challenges in political decision-making in the environment marked by cultural diversity, economic inequality and conflicts of the objectives of the agents. By equipping students with diverse tools of rational analysis of the complex social realities of our time, PPE develops exceptional problem solving and critical thinking abilities useful not only to future politicians, diplomats, public servants, human rights activists and journalists but also to future financiers, industrialists and to a range of other careers and activities which require drawing connections among political, economic, social and cultural phenomena. Since all compulsory courses have to be taken during the first three semesters of the program, from fourth semester onwards students will be free to select their own specialization pathway and will be able to put greater emphasis on either politics alone, or on politics and economics, or on politics and philosophy, choosing elective courses, seminars and the topic of their bachelor thesis according to their preferences regarding their future professional career.

      Description of verification and evaluation criteria:

      Every applicant needs to provide (in addition to her/his application form) following documents:

      a) Copy of a diploma to show completed secondary (or higher) studies, or confirmation that ongoing secondary studies will be completed in the current academic year;

      b) Transcript of records and academic results from previous studies;

      g) Recommended only: Secondary school qualification. If you possess an internationally recognised high-school diploma or university entrance exam certificate, such as International Baccalaureate (IB), GCE – Advanced Level, SAT, ACT, Gaokao (NCEE), Suenung (CSAT), you should submit it as well. Applicants from the Czech Republic and Slovakia who do not possess any internationally recognised secondary school qualification are encouraged to submit their SCIO OSP test results.

      Ad a) Confirmation of studies may be substituted with a transcript of records, provided that these are from the same academic year as the application.

      Ad d) Applicants should provide a certificate from one of the following standardized tests:

      • IELTS Academic - the minimum required overall band score of 6.5, with band score 6.0 or above in all four components;

      • TOEFL Internet-Based Test (IBT) - the minimum required overall score of 83, with a minimum scaled score in the four sections: reading 19, writing 24, listening 20, speaking 20;

      • Cambridge ESOL FCE - minimum Cambridge English Scale Score of 180;

      • have worked for at least one year at a company where the language of communication was English;

      When a score from an English-language test is not presented, the applicants should provide a certificate of their use of English during their prior studies or employment to support their claim. The certificate should contain contact information (an email address and a telephone number) to person (a programme director, or an employee supervisor) who can confirm the scope of the use of English language in the program or employment.

      Only test results from within the previous two calendar years can be accepted

      All documents which are not originally in Czech, Slovak or English must be officially translated into English. Only complete applications will be considered. Personal data will be used exclusively for organizing the course enrollments.

      The admission committee will assess individual applicants with regard to their (i) academic background (grades from previous secondary studies): 0-30 points, (ii) English proficiency: 0-30 points, (iii) Essay on PPE topic: 0-40 points. The final ranking of applicants will be determined by a sum of awarded points (ranging possibly between 0-100). The point limit for accepting applicants is set by the Dean.

      Due to its interdisciplinary character, BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) equips students with diverse tools of analysis of social phenomena, and develops exceptional problem solving abilities useful to future politicians, diplomats, public servants, local government officials, researchers and policy analysts, journalists, NGO activists, but also financiers, industrialists or economic consultants, and to a range of other careers and activities which require drawing connections among political, economic, and cultural factors that shape the complex social realities of our increasingly globalised and diverse world. In addition, it is expected that a substantial part of graduates will continue in their studies at various (mainly Political science, Philosophy and Economics) Master level programs.
