Characteristics of the Studies: The doctoral studies are conceived as a preparatory programme for scholars and researchers whose creative endeavours contribute to the development of theory and research in the field of education sciences. The programme aims preferably to enhance their relevant expertise, to disseminate relevant research findings and trends in the field of education and to cultivate methodological competences of doctoral students. General focus of the study programme offers students the chance to get acquainted more deeply with the pedagogical disciplines. The focal point of the doctoral study is a doctoral dissertation/thesis, defined as an original scholarly work whose findings enrich the respective field of study within the broader context of developing the discipline. Due to the nature and content of study, the applicant may consult the theme, the structure of the project and possibilities for its processing with potential supervisors of doctoral studies. Program without specialization.

Entrance Examination: Research project proposal of up to 10 pages must be sent together with the application to the Department of Science, Faculty of Education, Charles University and should correspond with thematic areas chosen by supervisors. The research project shall include  Characteristics of the research topic/area and its relevance, a literature review on the topic, and/or its theoretical background,  Formulation of a research problem and specific research questions, Description of the methodology chosen to answer the research questions,  Plan for realisation of the research project and References (all works cited in the text). The entrance examination is an oral presentation of the applicant in front of the entrance committee.

Evaluation Criteria: The applicant can get a maximum of ten points, the number of points for the admission to study is getting at least seven points.

Podmínkou přijetí ke studiu v doktorském studijním programu je řádné ukončení studia v magisterském studijním programu.

Absolvent doktorského programu Pedagogika je odborník v oblasti vzdělávání, který v průběhu studia kultivuje schopnost uplatnit teoretické vybavení tvůrčím způsobem. Je vědomostně, metodologicky i jazykově vybaven pro individuální i kolektivní vědeckou práci v oblasti pedagogiky a příbuzných společenských věd. Profesně se může uplatnit zejména jako vědecký pracovník, vysokoškolský pedagog, pedagog vyšších odborných škol, jako odborný nebo řídicí pracovník v samostatných vzdělávacích či výchovných zařízeních a jako koncepční či analytický pracovník v institucích veřejné správy. Získané kompetence mu umožňují odborné působení v široké škále povolání, kde uplatní hluboké odborné a metodologické znalosti, kritické myšlení a odborný nadhled.
