Music Oriented at Education
The aim is to educate students in the area of music theory and praxis.
The basis is put on disciplines necessary in musical education – music theory, harmony, counterpoint, history of music, musical forms. Practical part is based on instrument playing, voice training, vocal sight singing and conducting techniques.
Graduates should be prepared for getting a job in educational institutions for musical activities of children, in cultural institutions, museums etc. They are not prepared for independent profession of music teacher. For teaching qualification it is necessary to continue in Master program.
Musical Instrument Oriented at Education
This program is intended for graduates of music conservatory, musical high schools and musical basic schools who are not oriented for professional interpretation career.
It is possible to study two instruments – piano or violin.
The basic subjects are individual study of instrument, chamber music, improvisation, orchestra playing. Theoretical subjects – construction and history of instrument, instrumental literature.
Graduates should be prepared for getting a job in educational institutions for musical activities of children, in cultural institutions, museums etc. They are not prepared for independent activity of music teacher. For teaching qualification it is necessary to continue in Master program.
Exam in first branch – max. 40 points (Music)
Exam in second branch – max. 40 points (Instrument – piano or violin)
Total score – 80 points maximum.
Music Oriented at Education
Singing – max. 10 points
The applicant must prepare and perform:
- 2 contrasting, unaccompanied folk songs from either the student’s native country or the Czech Republic.
The applicant should perform the songs by memory, with attention to healthy vocal technique.
Musicianship – max. 20 points
The applicant will be asked to:
- Transpose the folk songs, starting on different notes and in different keys.
- Sing major and minor scales, including natural, melodic and harmonic minor.
- Match any pitch from the piano.
- Identify perfect, major, minor intervals; major, minor triads in root position and both inversions; dominant 7th chord in root position.
- Sing back a simple melody after hearing it played twice on the piano by the examiner.
- Hear a rhythmic pattern once and clap it correctly.
- Listen to a short melody and tap the main beat.
- Demonstrate vocal improvisation and creativity by completing an 8-bar melody after hearing the first 4 bars.
The number of points is given by complex evaluation of individual parts of musicality given above.
Instrumental Performance – max. 10 points
The apllicant must be able to play either the piano or the violin. Please note that all violinists are required to have at least minimum piano proficiency.
At the audition, the applicant should be prepared to play:
a) Piano
- 2 Etudes, e.g. Czerny op. 261, 299, 849.
- 1 Baroque composition, e.g. Bach: Two-parts Inventions, Little Preludes and Fugues.
- 1 movement from a classical sonata or sonatina.
- 1 romantic composition.
- 1 composition written in the 20th century.
- 1 folk song with student´s own harmonic accompaniment and its trasposition in various
keys.
It is not necessary to play the compositions by heart.
b) Violin
- Major and minor scales and chords in three octaves.
- 2 etudes, e.g. Mazas, Kreutzer.
- 1 movement from a violin concerto or other violin composition.
- 1 folk song and its transposition in various keys.
It is not necessary to play the compositions by heart.
Moreover, the applicant can perform other instruments that can be use at school (recorder, guitar, flute etc.).
Musical Instrument Oriented at Education
Piano – max. 40 points
The applicant will prepare and perform:
- 1 Major and 1 minor scales and chords performed in four octaves of one´s own choice.
- 2 concert etudes (at least 1 by Chopin).
- 1 Baroque composition, e.g. Bach: The Piano Welltempered, Three-part Sinfonias, Suites.
- 1 quick movement from a classical sonata or classical variations (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven).
- 1 Romantic composition.
- 1 composition written in the 20th century.
- Sight reading.
- A folk song with the student´s own harmony accompaniment, and be able to transpose it into various keys.
Pieces are to be memorized.
Violin – max. 40 points
The applicant will prepare and perform:
- Major and minor scales in three octaves, scales using double stop (3, 6, 8), chords.
- 2 contrasting etudes that show variety in technique and expression (Campagnoli, Dancla, Dont, Fiorillo, Paganini, Wieniawski).
- Bach: 1 – 2 parts from Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin.
- 2 compositions of contrasting character and style, e.g. concerts by Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Bruch, sonatas by Beethoven and the like.
- Sight reading.
- Transposition of a folk song into various keys at sight.
Pieces are to be memorized.

Applicant will be required to send till 23.06.2020:
1) letter of motivation
2) short musical CV
3) video recording of singing (3 minutes):

4) video recording of instrumental play (20 minutes):
The applicant must be able to play either the piano or the violin. Please note that all violinists are required to have at least minimum piano proficiency.

Graduates are able to understand, analyze, evaluate, vocally and instrumentally perform music. Graduates would find possibilities to work in different government and private institutions, work as assistants in institutions for spare-time activities of children and young people. Graduates of bachelor course are not qualified as teachers.

Graduates would find possibilities to work in different government and private institutions, work as assistants in institutions for spare-time activities of children, young people and adults. They possess knowledge and skills in both components: special and general educational. The curriculums outcome is not qualification for teaching.
