The subject introduces the basics of hygiene and epidemiology, explains the fundaments of preventive medicine. The prevention of infectious and non-infectious diseases, lifestyle, including nutrition, is accentuated. Regeneration is a part of healthy lifestyle. Regeneration procedures and massage are described.

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basics of hygiene and epidemiology and preventive medicine. Emphasis is placed on the prevention of infectious and non-infectious diseases. The aim of the regeneration part is to acquaint students with the whole range of regenerative procedures, including massage

Learning outcomes - Basics of hygiene and epidemiology:
Student - graduate of the course
- characterizes the field of hygiene and epidemiology
- List environmental factors affecting health and explain the principles of prevention
- describe the influence of working conditions on health, specify factors posing health risks in the physical education environment, list basic preventive measures;
- explains the concept of healthy nutrition; lists the health risks of food contamination and prevention options
- specify the basic requirements of the physical education environment and explain their importance
- be able to evaluate the basic conditions necessary for the use of a physical education facility in normal practice
- define addiction, describe the health risks and consequences of addiction
- define the concept of infection; describe the process of spreading infection, characterise the factors influencing the transmission of infection in a population; describe the principles and importance of immunisation
The student is competent to apply the acquired knowledge in the field of hygiene and epidemiology in daily practice in personal and sporting activities of his/her wards; assess the lifestyle of his/her wards, identify and evaluate positive and negative factors of their lifestyle.

Learning Outcomes - the basics of athlete recovery
The student will be able to:
- Characterize regeneration in sport and related concepts such as fatigue, biorhythm and their subdivisions and means
- Describe passive regeneration, especially the role of sleep in the life of an athlete
- Describe the procedures involved in active regeneration.
- List specific regeneration procedures, explain how they are carried out, the principles behind them and how they work, and be able to advise and recommend them to their charges.
- Explain the physiological responses of the athlete's body to the various physical stimuli that are used in regeneration.
- Actively use recovery procedures
