Přednáška je určena k seznámení studentů s metodami matematické statistiky využitelnými ve fyzické geografii. Probíraná látka zahrnuje charakteristiky polohy a variabilty, analýzu dvoudimezionálních dat (jednoduchá lineární a nelineární regrese, vícenásobná lineární regrese), korelační počet, základní koncepty počtu pravděpodobnosti a testování hypotéz. Zahrnuty jsou dále metody analýz časovách řad a prostorových dat. Metody časových řad jsou zaměřeny na výpočet trendu, klouzavého průměru, autokorelace, předpovídání a spektrální analýzy. V kapitolách z geostatistiky je probírán výpočet experimentálního a teoretického variogramu a techniky interpolace dat, především krigingu.

The course is designed to introduce students to statistical techniques utilized in the physical geography. The techniques to be covered include measures of central tendency and variability, analysis of two dimensional data (simple linear and nonlinear regression, multiple linear regression), correlation measures, basic probability concepts and hypothesis testing. In order to emphasise the need of temporal and spatial data analyses in physical geography, the lectures about time series analyses and geostatistics are included. The time series lectures concentrates on trend, moving average, autocorrelation, forecasting and spectral analysis (Fourirer transform and periodogram). Geostatistics lectures include techniques for spatial structures recognition, computing of experimental and theoretical variograms, kriging (ordinary, external drift and indicator) techniques.
