Examination in Propedeutics in Internal Medicine at the Department of internal medicine 1, Plzeň-Lochotín has two parts, both held in one day:

Practical part:

a) The teacher chooses an appropriate patient and asks the student to perform some part of the physical examination (physicals), e.g. examination of the lungs.

b) The student approaches lege artis to the patient and asks him/her about presenting complaint.

c) The student shall perform the given part of the physical

Should the student not be able to communicate with the patient in Czech, the teacher will help the student and interpret the questions/answers and necessary instructions to the patient during the physical, e.g. "deep breath in - deep breath out and hold!" etc.

d) The student writes (on an A4 sheet of paper) notes about presenting complaints (e.g. "86-year-old woman was admitted due to…(one or two sentences)) and also writes down the findings from the given part of the physicals (the same way as if he/she would write regular medical notes on the patient´s chart).

The teacher assisting with the communication observes the student´s work and can give additional questions/comments. The teacher writes the theme of the practical exam and the grade achieved in the Examination book. The written notes from the physicals are given to the teacher examining the oral part.

Oral part: The student draws a card with a pair of questions,  He/She has 15 minutes for preparation and then presents the topic to the examiner.
