Application of knowledge of propedeutics and special surgery, practice in departments and operating theaters in the role of secondary doctor, theoretical and practical preparation for state final examination in surgery. Diagnosis of surgical diseases, individual organs and systems, indications for surgery, surgical procedures, surgery assistance, intensive care in surgery, postoperative complications, overweight, treatment of patients. Participation in morning visits, application of propedeutics knowledge, communication with patient, practical training of special surgery, participation in surgeries, indication of surgery, postoperative care, emphasis on student activity, active involvement in doctor's work, attendance at morning conferences including visit, participation in the work of doctors in ambulances and operating theaters, including assistance, in the department of ICU, solution of postoperative complications.

BREAST SURGERY - Diagnosis and treatment

• Breast cancer-epidemiology, risk factors, search and diagnostics, TNM classification, surgical treatment and adjuvant chemotherapy and actinotherapy.

CHEST AND LUNG SURGERY - Diagnosis and treatment

• Pneumothorax, chest drainage

• Inflammation of the lungs and pleura including chest empyema, pulmonary abscess.

• Tumors of the lungs and benign bronchial (bronchial adenoma and hamartoma) and malignant (lung carcinoma). Metastatic lung tumors.

Surgical course weeks consist of practical education 5 days/week (Mo - Fri) from 8.30 a.m. till 12.30. p.m. 
Student´s rotation schedule for practical education will be available at secretary office of 1st Surgical Department in first day of surgical course or on SIS.

In the first day of internship (22 April) at 8.30 a.m. the meeting of all students will be held in auditory hall of 1st Department of Surgery in General University Hospital. Students get more instructions regarding surgical course (groups, system of rotation, etc). Next day (23 April) students will attend their practical surgical course in person at allocated surgical department.

Requirements on students: working shoes, a white medical coat and identity card.

Based on the attendance on Monday 22 April students will be divided to five groups. Each group will be allocated in different surgical department according to rotation system. Students groups and system of rotation will be available in separate file in SIS. 

Students who were missing on Monday will be enrolled in groups after sending an e-mail to Jan.Ulrych@vfn.cz.

Changing of students from one group to another is possible only person by person. Students must arrange the group changing by themselves and inform the secretary of 1st surgical department (VFN) 224 962 215. Secretary will not arrange any group changing.

 

The request for the approval of foreign internship (out of Charles University) in Clinics in Surgery must to be delivered to the secretariat office of 1st Department of Surgery at least 10 days before the beginning of the regular internship in Clinics in Surgery (till 12 April).

 

Rules for studying subjects abroad (approved by Vice-Dean)

1.        A student asks the Vice-Dean for foreign internship before the stay

2.        The Vice-Dean send the request to tutor of the subject

3.        The tutor of the subject can approve/refuse:

           a)        the proposed department/hospital

           b)       the length of the internship

4.        The students´office will confirm the already spent time on foreign internship in this academic year

5.        The tutor of the subject can also insist on passing part of the internship at the proposed clinic/hospital and the remaining part of the internship at the department determined by the tutor

6.        During the academic year (according to the SIS) it is allowed to spend a maximum of 12 weeks in foreign internship (otherwise the students will not be able to match the credits in that year)

CREDITS for Surgery - Clinic and Introduction into Cardiovascular Medicine

Credit requirements: 80% of attendance - 100 hours of surgical practice (20 days)

 

 Attendance list is available in SIS as separate file. Original attendance list is necessary for credits. Without attendance list the student will not get the credits.
