Zápis do odborného jazykového kurzu Angličtina pro IMS I je podmíněn absolvováním VSTUPNÍHO TESTU, který se bude konat v pondělí 23. září 2024 v Jinonicích, v učebně B217.
Na test je třeba se zapsat v SIS do předmětu Vstupní test z angličtiny pro IMS (JLB107). Kapacita je omezena. Zápis na test je otevřen od 2.9. od 10:00 a skončí 22.9. ve 20:00h. V Souborech pak studenti najdou všechny potřebné informace.
ZÁPIS DO PŘEDMĚTU ANGLIČTINA PRO IMS I (JLB007) BUDE PŘIJATÝM UCHAZEČŮM OTEVŘEN ve středu 25.9.2024 v 18h. UPOZORŇUJEME, ŽE STUDENTI, KTEŘÍ SE ZAPÍŠÍ PŘED TÍMTO TERMÍNEM, BUDOU Z PŘEDMĚTU SYSTÉMEM VYMAZÁNI. Výsledek testu bude oznámen nejpozději 24.9. ve 20:00; jmenný seznam přijatých studentů bude vyvěšen v Souborech předmětu Vstupní test JLB107. Bodová hranice přijetí do kurzu je pohyblivá a záleží tedy na tom, jak studenti daný rok test napíší. Studenti jsou přijímáni podle pořadí od nejvyššího počtu bodů získaného na vstupním testu do naplnění kapacity všech paralelek.

NAHRADIT VSTUPNÍ TEST mohou studenti, kteří mají angličtinu na celkové úrovni C1 doloženou jazykovým certifikátem (příp. IELTS s výsledkem 7 a vyšším). Kopii certifikátu je nutné poslat emailem na adresu <jana.kunzova@fsv.cuni.cz> nejpozději do 16.9.2024 (včetně). Dále mohou požádat o upuštění od testu studenti, kteří složili mezinárodní maturitu - International Baccalaureate - s dobrými výsledky a rovněž pošlou kopii oficiálních výsledků do téhož data na výše uvedenou emailovou adresu.
Studenti, kteří na testu neuspějí, se mohou zapsat do kurzu Mgr. Michaely Gloverové - English for Social Sciences I. Kapacita kurzu je omezena.
UPOZORNĚNÍ č. 1: Pokud jste se nezúčastnili vstupního testu JLB107, nemůžete se zapsat do kurzu Mgr. Michaely Gloverové.

INFORMATION FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2024/2025
Enrolment for English for IMS I is conditioned by passing the PLACEMENT TEST, which will be held on Monday 23 September 2024 in Jinonice, room no. B217.
You must register for the test in SIS in the course Vstupní test z angličtiny pro IMS / Placement test from English for IMS (JLB107). Capacity is limited. Enrolment for the placement test via SIS opens on 2 September at 10 a.m., closes on 22 September at 8 p.m. Students will then find all necessary information in the Files.
ENROLLMENT FOR THE COURSE OF ENGLISH FOR IMS I (JLB007) WILL OPEN TO THE ADMITTED STUDENTS on Wednesday September 25, 2024 at 6pm.
ANY STUDENTS REGISTERING PRIOR TO THIS DAY WILL BE UNSIGNED BY THE SYSTEM FROM THE SUBJECT.
The list of students admitted to the course will be posted in the Files of the course Placement Test JLB107 no later than Tuesday, September 24 at 8pm.The point threshold for admission to the course is variable and therefore depends on how students perform on the test that year. Students are admitted in order of the highest score reached on the placement test until all parallel courses are filled up to their full capacity.

WAIVER APPLICATIONS: Students who have an overall English language level of C1, as evidenced by a language certificate (or IELTS score of 7 or above), may apply for a waiver of the placement test. A copy of the certificate must be emailed to <jana.kunzova@fsv.cuni.cz> no later than 16 September 2024. Students who have passed the International Baccalaureate with good results and who send a copy of their official results to the above email address by the same date may also apply for a waiver.
STUDENTS who did not pass the placement test may sign up for the course of English for Social Sciences I, taught by Mgr. Michaela Gloverová. Capacity is limited.
NOTE 1: If you have not taken the JLB107 placement test, you cannot enrol for Mgr. Michaela Gloverová's course.
NOTE 2: Students who have previously enrolled for English for IMS I (JLB007) and have not completed the course cannot enrol for the lower-level course of English for Social Sciences taught by Mgr. Michael Gloverová.

Cíl předmětu -
Cílem kurzu je překlenout propast mezi středoškolskou obecnou angličtinou a potřebami studentů FSV. Po absolvování kurzu by studenti měli být schopni sledovat odborné přednášky v angličtině doma i v zahraničí, diskutovat se zahraničními studenty, obhájit své názory a účastnit se zahraničních stáží.

The objective of this course is to bridge the gap between secondary school English and the needs of a university student. After the course students should be able to follow lectures in English, discuss topics in English and do the internship abroad in an English speaking country.

Students become acquainted with the specific vocabulary and its content on the basis of texts. Reading is crucial; the emphasis is also placed on communication, the exchange of information and discussions. The methods used are pair work, group work or sometimes individual work.

PODMÍNKY K ZÍSKÁNÍ ZÁPOČTU:

1. a) Dva písemné testy v průběhu zimního semestru (cvičení ve formě: multiple-choice, gap-filling, word formation, matching, True and False, grammar exercises, stručné vyjádření na dané téma v rozsahu 80-130 slov). Data budou oznámena hromadným emailem. Testy budou založeny na vybraných novinových článcích a znalostech získaných při práci s doplňkovými materiály (poslech, diskuse apod.). V polovině semestru se bude psát test zaměřený na novinové články 1-5 (mid-term test) a druhý test- credit test se soustřeďuje na novinové články 6-10, "Glossary" z oblasti mezinárodních vztahů (samostudium) a vybraná slovíčka/výrazy ze studentských prezentací Great Speeches. Oba testy budou také pokrývat doplňkové materiály.
Mid-term test je povinný. Délka mid-term testu - 40 minut. Data testu - pondělí 11. a 18.11. 2024 a čtvrtek 14. a 21.11. 2024.
Poznámka: test je pouze v anglickém jazyce, neobsahuje překlad.

c) Photo Project: 2 fotografie, které zachytí to, co na České republice obdivujete a 2 fotografie, které poukážou na něco, za co se za Českou republiku stydíte, co potřebuje vylepšit atd. Vy sami musíte být autorem těchto fotografií, tedy prosím žádné převzaté fotografie, běžte do ulic s očima dokořán.
Fotografie mi zašlete v emailu, do předmětu dejte "PHOTO PROJECT" a k fotografiím nepřipojujte Váš komentář. Komentář přednesete až přímo v hodině (dlouhý 3-4 minuty), ve které se budou Vaše fotografie prezentovat. Součástí Vašeho komentáře by rovněž měl být návrh na vylepšení/eliminaci problému, který jste zachytili na fotografiích toho, co se Vám na České republice nelíbí.
Pokud jste mezinárodní studenti a jste zatím v České republice jen krátce, přesto zkuste zachytit to, co se Vám na této zemi líbí a co naopak ne.

d) Průběžné zasílání vyplněných Vocabulary Sheets na Moodle 1. Vyplněný Vocabulary Sheet musí být vždy zaslán nejpozději do půlnoci, která předchází hodině, ve které je daný Vocabulary Sheet probírán.
NOTE 1: We use Moodle 1 (and not MOODLE 2) for our course.
NOTE 2: Do not send Worksheets through Moodle, only Vocabulary sheets.
e) Writing assignments zadané v průběhu semestru. (viz jednotlivé Worksheets, které jsou probírané v hodině).
2. Pro úspěšné splnění mid-termu a credit testu je třeba dosáhnout 70% správných odpovědí z celkem 50 bodů. Časový limit testu je 45 min.
3. Studenti, kteří nesplní mid-term (tj. absence/nesplnění požadované úrovně apod.), budou psát komplexní test (complex test) ve zkouškovém období.Test bude v rozsahu 100 bodů a bude třeba dosáhnout 70% úspěšných odpovědí.Test je založen na všech materiálech výše zmíněných. Tento test mohou studenti opakovat 2x, čili mají celkem 3 pokusy. Časový limit complex testu je 90 min. Studenti, kteří nesplní credit test, budou rovněž psátcomplex test.
4. Účast na hodinách se doporučuje, ale není podmínkou k získání zápočtu.
5. Čestnost: Mravní integrita je nepostradatelnou součástí tohoto kurzu. Během testů není dovoleno používat knihy, poznámky, mobilní telefony nebo jakékoliv jiné materiály. V případě porušení této dohody bude student z testu diskvalifikován.
6. Získání zápočtu je podmínkou k zapsání do kurzu JLB008.
V SIS v položce Soubory jsou k nahlédnutí vzory mid-term otázek.

PREREQUISITES TO OBTAIN THE CREDIT FOR THE CLASS, the so called "zápočet":

1.a) To pass two written tests scheduled in the winter semester.The tests consist of multiple-choice, gap-filling, word formation, matching, True and False, and other grammar exercises, a short essay/opinion (80-130 words) on a given topic. The dates of these tests will be announced via mass e-mail. The tests will be based on the set of newspaper articles and on the knowledge gained during our work with additional materials (listening, discussions, etc.). The first test will be based on the articles 1-5 (mid-term test) and the second test- credit test will be based on articles 6-10, the "Glossary" from the area of International Relations (self-study) and selected vocabulary/expressions from the students' presentations of Great Speeches. Both tests are also going to cover the additional materials.
It is obligatory to take the mid-term test. Time limit of the mid-term - 4O minutes. Dates - Mondays 11 and 18 November, 2024 and Thursdays 14 and 21 November, 2024.
NB: Instructions in the tests are in English only; there is no Czech into English/English into Czech translation.

c) Photo Project: 2 photographs that will capture something you admire about the Czech Republic and 2 photographs showing something you are embarrassed about regarding this country, something that needs further improvement, etc. You yourselves have to author these photographs; therefore, do not use any photos from the internet. Go to the streets with your eyes wide open.
Send your photographs via email, put "PHOTO PROJECT" in the subject line and do not attach your commentaries to the email. You will present your commentaries in the class (3-4 minutes long) in which your photos are shown to the class. Part of your commentary should also be a proposal for an improvement/elimination of the problem which you captured in the photos of those aspects of the Czech Republic which you do not like.
If you are an international student and have been in the Czech Republic for a short time only, still try to capture in photographs what you like and dislike about the Czech Republic.
Deadline: 28 October
d) Vocabulary Sheets sent via Moodle 1 in the course of semester. A filled-out Vocabulary Sheet has to be sent no later than the midnight preceding the class in which this Vocabulary Sheet is treated (e.g. if Text 1 is treated on Thursday, then a filled-out Vocabulary sheet no. 1 has to be submitted no later than by the midnight of the day preceding, i.e. on Wednesday).

2. It is necesary to reach 70% of correct answers out of the total of 50 points to successfully pass the mid-term and credit test. The time limit is 45 min.
3. If a student fails to pass the mid-term test, s/he will have to take a complex test in the course of examination period - the passing level will be 70% of correct answers out of 100 points. The complex test will be based on all the study material mentioned above. Students will have in total 3 trials- one regular, two retakes. The time limit of the complex test will be 90 min. If a student fails to pass the credit test, s/he will have to take a complex test as well.
4. Attendance is optional although recommended.
5. Honesty: This course applies the policy of academic integrity. No books, notes, cell phones or other material assistance may be used at any of the tests. Violation of this policy results in failing the test.
6. Students are required to obtain the credit to be able to enroll in the course JLB008.
