This course introduces students to the writing of short fiction, poetry and drama, and methods for the teaching of creative
writing in the classroom. The final student project for the course will be the completion of a short book in the genre of the
student?s choice. In-class work will include discussing both the craft of writing and examples of the different genres.
Another important aspect of in-class work will be the ?workshop? where students will critique the work of their peers and be
critiqued in turn ? the aims here being feedback, and the development of evaluation and editing skills. It is hoped that
students in this course will also organize and participate in a variety of outside-of-class time activities: e.g., performing their
poetry, producing a class magazine, etc.
