Kurz se věnuje filmovým a obecně kulturním reprezentacím genderové a sexuální jinakosti ve světovém i českém filmu a uvádí studující do problematiky Queer filmu a feministických, GLBTI a queer filmových studií a to v kontextu kritické refllexe globálních a transnacionálnícj proměn a vlivů. Jelikož částí kurzu je i intenzivni workshop navázán na filmový festival Mezipatra, diskutuje kurz i roli, kterou v politice genderových a sexuálních identit hrají mezinárodní filmové festivaly, a jakou roli hrají ve formování přístupu společnosti k alternativním genderovým a sexuálním identitám a životním zkušenostem a volbám. Kurz probíhá paralelně na George Washington University, Washington D.C., USA. Obě studijní skupiny se setkají v rámci workshopu během Mezipater a společně se festivalu zúčastní. Workshop je zamýšlen na prostor pro setkání dvou skupin studujících z rozlišných kulturních, politických a koneckonců i jazykových kontextů. Našimi partnery_kami v diskuzi jsou studující George Washington University a prof. Robert McRuer. Robert McRuer je mj. předním teoretikem queer teorií a "teorie kriploušství", zaměřené na kritickou dekonstrukci kategorie "postižení". Diskuze filmů, které budeme společně sledovat v rámci filmového festivalu, otevírají prostor pro konfrontace různých pohledů, i kontextualizované a konkrétnější diskuzi o transnacionálním rozměru filmových festivalů. V letosnim roce probiha workshop soubezne s Mezipatry v Praze (8.-15.11.), v techto dnech probiha workshop celo- a kazdodenne (viz sylabus) Permanentku/vstupy na filmy v ramci filmoveho festivalu si studujici hradi sami/y. V individualnich pripadech, kdy by toto tvorilo barieru v ucasti na kurzu, budeme hledat reseni. V takovem pripade me prosim kontaktujte.

This course is one of the two parallel courses that will take place both on the Faculty of Humanities, UK and at the University of Washington, D.C. The shared syllabus covers three main themes: film cultural studies, queer theory and transnational perspective. The course will be taught in English. Queer film and Transnational Studies: The interdisciplinary field that has come to be called "queer" studies over the past two decades has always concerned itself with questions of representation: how are, for instance, lesbians and gay men, transgendered people, intersex-, or asexual people and other queer identities represented in film, in novels, in other forms of media? As the field has developed, these questions of representation have increasingly been linked to other, complex questions, involving political economy, globalization, and transnationalism: in what ways have lgbt people been incorporated into contemporary nation-states? What identities and desires threaten "the nation" as it is currently (and variously) materialized in our world? How have identities such as "gay" and "lesbian" circulated globally? How have those recognizable minority identities come into contact and conflict with other ways of identifying around non-normative desires? Have those identities at times functioned imperialistically, especially as "gay tourism" has become a recognizable part of global capitalism? Conversely, what kinds of unexpected alliances have been shaped across borders as queer movements have globalized? How have these movements theorized race, gender, class, and ability; what connections have been made with other movements organized around identity? This course also considers how questions of queer representation intersect with questions of queer globalization(s). The course has two parts -- an everyweek sessions in which we discuss the readings and watch films and an intensive week-long workshop (8-15.11.) for which the group of Robert McRuer's class will join us. At the workshop we will meet everyday for a class discussion (cca 11-3pm) and than later in the day we join the festival screenings and discussions. You will be provided with a precise schedule once the festival program is announced. For reference, you can see the schedule from last year, available in the course materials. Both parts of the class are taught in English, however we will make sure the class language-accessible and if needed help with translations. The festival pass/ "Permanentka": The students will have to cover their own festival passes (cca 550 Kc) for the whole festival. If you have access requirements for the class, please contact me ahead of time, I will be very happy to make the class more accessible!

Mezipatra Queer Film Festival

 

During the workshop, we will meet daily (apx. 11am-4pm) for the class discussing and then follow to the cinemas to watch the movie/s we then discuss in the class the next day/s. The workshop starts with an evening meeting of the two international groups over dinner on 7 November.
