This is one of the courses of the CET Academic Programs (Central European Studies and Jewish Studies); the comprehensive information is available at https://bakalar.fhs.cuni.cz/SHV-211.html#2.
Human beings are by nature social creatures, our psyche identity and behaviors are all formed by how we relate to
others and how others relate to us. This also includes how groups, cultures and ideologies influence our psyche
and the societies we inhabit. In this course we will be covering some of the most important theories of social
psychology along with tying it to the experience of studying abroad in Prague, Czech Republic. We will be looking
at social phenomena such as conformity, the power of the situation and just how much of our identity is formed by
our environment. We will focus on what social psychology teaches us about group behavior and also being aware
of group influences so that we have more freedom to choose how to act and are less likely to be blindly following
groups or be manipulated by them. This course will be a critical thinking course and will raise awareness to the
power of culture, situations and the environment have on our day to day lives and to raise awareness of such
phenomena
