This course examines the most important trends and movements in the history of Czech and Central European cinematography. It also puts films within their historical (political and cultural) context.
Chronology of the Czech film history is combined with thematic and stylistic analysis. During class sessions,
Students engage in discussions on specific themes and watch films or clips from films that represent these themes.

Students are required to follow the instructions and requirements specified in the course syllabus. Winter semester: Final exams are usually held in the second half of November / first half of December. There might be also midterm exams, see the syllabus. Summer semester: Final exams are held in the first half of May. There might be also midterm exams, see the syllabus.

The teaching period of the CET courses begins already within the week from January 27, 2025, onwards. Successful students will be enrolled in the course in the SIS by the FHS International Office. INFORMATION FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTS: Because the teaching period of CET courses begins early, these courses are available in spring semesters only for those exchange students who are spending a full academic year at Charles University. They can enroll in 2 CET courses per semester depending on the available capacity and are expected to select regular courses in addition to the CET (YBAC-coded) courses.
