The course Diploma Seminar I builds on the course Methodology and thesis project. It is intended for students who already have an approved thesis topic and are beginning its systematic development. The seminar is structured as a combination of group consultations, guided discussions, and individual student work under the supervision of the thesis advisor. Emphasis is placed on the precise elaboration of the theoretical foundations and methodological section of the thesis, ongoing feedback, and the development of academic argumentation skills.

Sylabus - angličtina

Teaching takes place in four contact sessions, with students working independently between them and providing written peer review to one another before each seminar.

1. Introductory Seminar

Definition of requirements, timeline, and the structure of the theoretical and methodological parts of the thesis. Instruction on how to provide high‑quality peer review.

2. Seminar on the Developing Theoretical Section (approx. 50%)

Students submit a portion of their text in advance and prepare a peer review of a classmate’s work. The seminar focuses on discussing the received feedback and clarifying key revisions.

3. Seminar on the Completed Theoretical Section

Prior to the seminar, students exchange written evaluations of the complete theoretical chapter. The seminar concentrates on argumentation, critical synthesis of sources, and coherence with the research problem.

4. Seminar on the Methodological Section

Students prepare a peer review of the draft methodological chapter in advance. The seminar addresses the consistency of the research design, feasibility, and readiness for conducting the empirical part of the thesis.
