Students will gain an informative overview of literature for children's choirs in order to understand the different needs and repertoire choices depending on the type of choir they will be working with. During the semester, they will receive background information on specific composers and significant works, primarily from 20th century and contemporary Czech music, but also from historical periods of Czech and world music. An important part of the course will be an introduction to key children's ensembles and choral personalities, a live experience of a children's choir concert performance, and a basic orientation to sources of notated material.

Choir and cantata works by Czech and world composers with a focus on mixed choir literature. The most important personalities and ensembles from the field of choral interpretation. Topics: Choral works liturgical and generally spiritual, Choral works inspired by folklore, Chorals as a part of great musical dramatic forms (opera), Choral compositions using modern compositional techniques. The course also includes arranging selected attractive compositions for various types and sets of choirs and instruments suitable for pedagogical and concert activities of instrumental and vocal-instrumental ensembles of elementary and secondary schools.

Cíl předmětu

Students are oriented in the most important composers and choirmasters and key compositions, mainly from Czech music of the 20th and 21st centuries, but also from historical periods of Czech and world music.

They are able to compose a motivating repertoire of the ensemble according to the level of vocal abilities of the singers, critically evaluate the dramaturgy of a concert and suggest its improvement, describe the basic organizational principles of the functioning of a children's choir on the basis of reading recommended literature.

Students are able to search for repertoire for children's choirs in various information sources (archives, libraries, internet, etc.).
