Kurz je úvodem do základních pojmů a historického vývoje demografie a principů její práce. Demografie je prezentována jako vědecká disciplína se specifickým objektem a předmětem zájmu a vlastní terminologií. Studenti se seznámí s účelem a specifiky demografického poznání, současnou pozici demografie mezi ostatními disciplínami a historii demografie jako vědní disciplíny ve světovém a národním měřítku. Je jim poskytnuta základní informace o zdrojích, způsobech a zásadách shromažďování a diseminace dat o obyvatelstvu a jeho demografické reprodukci, stejně jako o zdrojích odborných informacích. Detailní pozornost je věnována pojetí času v demografii včetně zobrazení demografických údajů v Lexisově diagramu. V souvislosti s různým pojetím času jsou diskutovány základní přístupy k popisu a analýze v demografii a představen obecný systém demografických ukazatelů. Celý kurz protíná ilustrace vybraných determinantů a důsledků populačního vývoje prostřednictvím prezentace reálných případů, diskuse o vztazích populačního vývoje s jinými sociálními, ekonomickými, politickými, kulturními i přírodními procesy a příklady využití demografických poznatků v praxi. Přednášková část je prolínána praktickou částí, v níž si studenti procvičí probíranou látku, seznámí se s formou výpočtů základních demografických ukazatelů, a to za účelem lepšího pochopení základů demografického studia. The course is an introduction to the basic concepts and historical development of demography and the principles of its work. Demography is presented as a scientific discipline with a specific object and subject of interest and its own terminology. Students will learn about the purpose and specifics of demographic knowledge, the current position of demography among other disciplines, and the history of demography as a discipline on a global and national scale. They are provided with basic information about the sources, methods and principles of collecting and disseminating data on population and its demographic reproduction, as well as sources of specialized information. Detailed attention is given to the concept of time in demography, including the representation of demographic data in the Lexis diagram. The basic approaches to description and analysis in demography are discussed in relation to the various concepts of time, and a general system of demographic indicators is introduced. Interspersed throughout the course are illustrations of selected determinants and consequences of population development through the presentation of real cases, discussions of the relationships of population development with other social, economic, political, cultural, and natural processes, and examples of the application of demographic knowledge in practice. The lecture part is interspersed with a practical part, in which students practice the material discussed, become familiar with the form of calculations of basic demographic indicators, in order to better understand the basics of demographic studies. Sylabus
1. Demografie a její postavení mezi ostatními vědními disciplínami, objekt a předmět demografie, vnitřní členění. Historie demografie. Přehled demografických organizací a institucí.
2. Prameny demografický dat (sčítání, evidence přirozené měny a migrací, registry, výběrová šetření,...), nejvýznamnější zdroje demografických dat.
5. Struktura obyvatelstva podle věku a pohlaví. Věková pyramida, typy věkových struktur a jejich charakteristiky. Další vybrané struktury obyvatelstva (národnostní, vzdělanostní, dle rodinného stavu,...)
6. Proces úmrtnosti a jeho širší podmíněnosti; úmrtnost podle věku a pohlaví, kojenecká a dětská úmrtnost. Srovnávací ukazatele úmrtnosti – metody standardizace.
7. Ukazatel "naděje dožití", jakožto výstup úmrtnostní tabulky; smysl modelování procesu úmrtnosti – princip konstrukce úmrtnostní tabulky, její využití k analýze a prognózování počtu a složení obyvatelstva. Úmrtnost v mezinárodním srovnání.
8. Klasifikace nemocí a příčin úmrtí. Nemocnost a zdravotní stav obyvatelstva, možnosti hodnocení.
9. Proces porodnosti – sběr a evidence dat, ukazatele, širší podmíněnosti a souvislosti. Vývoj úrovně plodnosti v Česku a mezinárodní srovnání.
10. Proces potratovosti – kategorie potratů, vývoj legislativy, základní ukazatele.
11. Procesy sňatečnosti a rozvodovosti – demografické, sociální, kulturní, legislativní. Základní ukazatele. Změny v úrovni sňatečnosti a rozvodovosti v Česku a mezinárodní srovnání. Struktura rodin a domácností, nesezdaná soužití a další netradiční způsoby soužití.
12. Celkové charakteristiky demografické reprodukce. Význam migrace – možnosti hodnocení, ukazatele. Rozmístění obyvatelstva, urbanizace a koncentrace obyvatelstva – trendy, ukazatele
13. Populační prognózy a projekce: typy demografických prognóz z hlediska času a zahrnuté populace; metodika, stanovení parametrů, výsledky. Prognózy obyvatelstva v Česku, ve světě; odvozené prognózy.
14. Světový populační vývoj – demografická revoluce, druhý demografický přechod.

Structure of families and households, unmarried cohabitation and other non-traditional ways of cohabitation.
12. General characteristics of demographic reproduction. Importance of migration - possibilities of evaluation, indicators. Population distribution, urbanization and population concentration - trends, indicators
13. Population forecasts and projections: types of demographic forecasts in terms of time and population covered; methodology, determination of parameters, results. Population forecasts in Czechia, in the world; derived forecasts.
14. World population development - demographic revolution, second demographic transition.
