The basic practice of organic chemistry have the task to teach students the basics of laboratory techniques
and methodology of work in the organic laboratory.
Synthetic tasks are chosen so that the students are acquainted with basic chemical operations, and to obtain information
on the preparation and properties of organic compounds.
Students thus have to supplement the theoretical knowledge from the lectures of organic chemistry.

1st course 6.5. - 17.5. 2024 (10 days).

Expected outcomes

In the area of knowledge:
- The student names and describes chemical apparatus and laboratory glassware.
- The student will select an appropriate isolation procedure to obtain a prepared compound.
- The student reproduces a work procedure in the preparation of chemical compounds.
- The student describes the mechanism of the reaction leading to the preparation of a compound.

In the area of comprehension:
- The student can prepare chemical compounds according to a given recipe.
- The student will explain and discuss the steps during the preparation of chemical compounds.
- The student explains concepts such as distillation, filtration, crystallization, chromatography, melting point, TLC.
- The student identifies various chemical apparatus and chemical vessels.

In the application area:
- The student knows and applies laboratory techniques and isolation procedures to prepare compounds.
- The student will use practical laboratory skills in further study, especially during the preparation of his/her undergraduate and then graduate thesis.

In the area of analysis:
- The student will characterize prepared compounds.
- The student categorizes and distinguishes individual chemical reactions according to the reaction mechanism in prepared compounds.
- The student calculates the theoretical and practical yield of a reaction.
- The student analyzes proof reactions of prepared compounds.

In the field of synthetic:
- The student will prepare compounds according to a given recipe.
- The student will assemble appropriate apparatus to perform a chemical reaction or to perform an isolation procedure.
- The student will create a record of the experiment and learn the principles of laboratory book writing.

In the area of evaluation:
- The student will evaluate the performance of a laboratory problem through discussion in the laboratory book and with the instructor.
- The student will justify and defend his/her results to the instructor.

Synthetic tasks are chosen so that the students are acquainted with basic chemical operations, and to obtain information
on the preparation and properties of organic compounds.
Students thus have to supplement the theoretical knowledge from the lectures of organic chemistry.

Filling the practice :
1. Basic operations in the organic laboratory: procedures of isolation organic substances; cleaning
operations; monitoring the progress of reactions; chromatographic methods
2. Work safety and first aid in the organic laboratory.
3. Laboratory technique : the construction of the apparatus for chemical reaction; mixing;
heating; cooling; work under reduced pressure in an inert atmosphere, and if protected
from humidity
4. Cleaning and isolation procedures : filtration; washing; extraction; drying
of solids and liquids; crystallization
5. Distillation : simple distillation; distillation under reduced pressure; mastering the work
with the rotary vacuum evaporator
6. Thin layer chromatography .
7. The leadership of the working of the protocol.
