The course (summer school) provides an interdisciplinary approach and combines multiple learning methods, such as lectures, workshops, round-table discussions and fieldwork applications. The objective of the course is firstly to contribute in a substantial way to the study of violence and to catalyze the growth of the study of violence as a field, secondly to provide interdisciplinary approach to the study of nationalism, religion and violence in Europe. Students will get their ECTS for active participation in the programme. They will have to prepare for respective sections (reading materials) and present written output based on fieldwork activities. After fulfilling all requirements, students will get an official transcript of records with 8 ECTS and a grade. We use the ECTS grading scale defined by the European Commission (A to F, where A is the best and F means failed). Course hours - active participation: 54 hours (1 hour = 60 minutes) Time supposed for preparation before the course (reading materials): 60 hours Time supposed for preparation fo workshops during the course: 12 hours Time supposed for writing the fieldwork output paper: 40 hours

The Summer Seminar will focus on four different but interconnected themes. Every theme will be discussed over two consecutive days, being divided into three subsections (Framework and Theory, Interdisciplinary Approach, Case Study) and a fieldwork. Overall, the Seminar will take place over 10 days, 60 working hours including fieldwork trips. In addition, a Sunday trip to Terezín (Theresienstadt) memorial will be organized. June 21-22, 2016 - Theme 1: Institutions and Politics
June 23-24, 2016 - Theme 2: Violence (incl. Genocide)
June 26, 2016 - Trip to Terezín Ghetto Memorial (Theresienstadt) June 27-28, 2016 - Theme 3: Nationalism and Borders
July 29-30, 2016 - Theme 4: Memory
July 1, 2016 - Official Program Closure
