The course will introduce students to the main concepts of Southeast European history and interpretations of this complex area. Although histories and discourses on and about the region – commonly referred to as the Balkans – have evolved and developed, many stereotypes still persist both among outsiders and locals. Hence, in this course, we will seek to uncover and interpret the (self-)ascribed meanings of the history interpretation based on readings and visual material and through peer debates.
