Anotace - angličtina
The 4EU+ Spring School is designed to get students acquainted with European environmental economics and policy in the case of European Green Deal and it represents a joint effort of University of Heidelberg, Charles University, University of Copenhagen, University of Milano, and University of Warsaw. The school provides an excellent opportunity to gain an international academic experience. It aims at developing international academic cooperation between national communities and at enhancing students’ team work and international communication skills in academic area. It will take place partly online (one week) and partly as a physical gathering (one week) of all the participants at the University of Copehangen.

Cíl předmětu - angličtina

After the School, students will have become competent about:
- the process through which EU environmental policies emerge, take shape, and become implemented;
- the institutions involved in initiating, shaping, defining, and implementing EU environmental policies;
- the tools and methods used to determine costs and benefits of alternative policy designs;
- the different ways in which different actors use these tools and methods to further their interest at the design and implementation stage.

Podmínky zakončení předmětu - angličtina

The credits will be granted after fulfilling following conditions (plagiarism and other misconducts against academic and/or good manners will prevent passing the course):
Policy brief (weight: 50% of the grade): This is a 1.000 word document prepared during Block B that sets out the key aspects of a specific policy challenge within the Climate Action strategy of the European Green Deal. A particular emphasis is on preparing a concise, yet factually rich policy brief for policymakers.
National position paper (50%): This is a 2.000 word document prepared during Block C that sets out the national position on a specific issue /topic.
Students work together in working groups on the briefs and position papers, but each student submits their own version.

In presence: May 2 (evening) – 6 (morning) (Mon - Fri) - Copenhagen (THE PARTICIPATION OF STUDENTS IS SUPPOSED TO BE SUBSIDISED BY THE 4EU+ PROGRAM IN AMOUNT 525 EUR PER STUDENT (Travel allowances (return ticket from Charles University) and living allowances (accommodation and meals))

Sylabus - angličtina

The Spring School consists of an online and an in-presence component.

Online Phase (April 26 to 29): Whole-day attendance required for online lectures, peer-to-peer teaching, group work, quizzes, online working groups, and loosely structured interaction time online. 

In-Presence Phase (May 2 - May 6): After a welcome event on the evening of May 2, the remainder of the week will be dedicated to intensive interaction time in working groups of five to six students to [1] finalize a policy brief on a key aspect of the Climate Action strategy of the European Green Deal. (e.g. Extending the EU ETS; Carbon border adjustments; Innovation policy towards zero emissions); [2] to develop a national position paper for the European Green Deal; and [3] participate in a 3 hours fixed-schedule simulation on May 5. This phase concludes on the morning of May 6.

Vstupní požadavky - angličtina

This is a graduate level course for students enrolled in public policy, political sciences, economics, or environmental studies. This course is open to all MA students of the ISS and IPS UK FSV who are interested in this kind of experience. The number of the participants is limited to max. 6. In case of more than 6 applicants, the choice of participants will be based on their affiliation to the ISS or IPS, motivation, and study results.
Working language is English.
