1/ From the beginning of the semester and during the whole semester, all information and communication related to the course will be via Moodle.
2/ Form of teaching: The course is taught offline. Teachers reserve the right to change the form of teaching (mainly because of the epidemiological situation) – in case of this kind of changes, teachers will inform student as soon as possible. 3/ Students registered as students with special needs are kindly asked to contact the teacher (preferably) before the start of the course. 4/The course will introduce students to the economic approaches to the analysis of contemporary societies. The course is divided into three “modules”: two of which are based on (i) the “general” epistemologies utilised in description of the ontology of contemporary economic systems and (ii) relatively in-depth account of workings of contemporary financial systems. The third module (iii) will consist of invited guests that are experts in their respective fields and will provide students with experience of practices within and among financial intermediaries and systems. Students will become familiar with selected monetary and regulatory policies, government fiscal policies and banking sector’s economic aims, and will be provided with critical assessment of their advantages and disadvantages. The last module will be followed and supplemented by respective seminars in connection with the problematics covered in the first two modules. 5/AI: Students can use artificial intelligence (AI) tools in their coursework. The use of AI must be transparently stated (which tool, at what stage of development and how it was used). The use of AI is not allowed to generate answers to the questions. Taking the results generated by AI in their verbatim or slightly modified form and passing them off as your own work is considered plagiarism. For more information on the use of AI at FSV UK, see the UK Position Statement and Recommendations for Learners. Poslední úprava: Kotherová Zuzana, Ing., Ph.D. (13.09.2024)

Students´ requirements and obligations: In order to successfully pass the course, students will be required to fulfil two conditions. First, throughout the curse, a selection of papers and chapters of various monographies that deal with particular contemporary issues will be covered in detail. Students will be required to study selected papers and participate actively in the corresponding seminars (not all papers listed in the itinerary will be covered). Furthermore, a number of guest speakers/lecturers will be attending, all of whom come from various financial institutions and who will give simple assignments (connected to their individual fields), which then will be discussed the following week. Finally, each student will develop a semestral thesis according to his or her selected theme and apply it to a contemporary economic setting of his or her choice. (List of topics will be provided on the first lecture). The thesis must be developed using not only the materials provided during the course but students will also be required to be able to find and assimilate additional strings of relevant literature. Final Evaluation:
Students will be classified according to their participation and degree of preparedness in individual lectures and knowledge of individual themes. However, the emphasis will be put particularly on the quality of the submitted semestral thesis. Note, however, that the semestral thesis submission is mandatory regardless of points acquired in lectures themselves.
