Cílem kurzu je rozvoj komunikačních a jazykových dovedností, které pomohou studentům v jejich studiu a umožní jim dobře obstát při studijních či pracovních zkušenostech v anglicky mluvící komunitě (budování akademické a odborné slovní zásoby pro daný obor, tříbení formálního projevu slovem i písmem).

The aim of the course is to help students to devolop their communicative and linguistic competence corresponding to their needs and professional interests, so that they are able to function effectively in the target language environment. Students should be able to demonstrate growth in ability to listen, speak, read and write clearly using specialised vocabulary that is commonly used within their field of academic study (ideally progressing towards C1-level).

Studijní materiály a didaktizované texty k daným tématům budou pro registrované studenty v průběhu kurzu vždy včas k dispozici. Vyučující přinese pracovní listy na seminář, poté budou k dispozici v MOODLE. Materiály slouží výhradně ke studijním účelům pro zapsané posluchače kurzu Angličtina pro veřejnou a sociální politiku a nejsou určeny k dalšímu šíření.

Semináře budou probíhat v anglickém jazyce.
Hlavní role je připisována práci s anglickými autentickými materiály z oboru sociální politiky (content-based language learning) s konkrétním výstupem (task/project-based learning); jazyk a akademické dovednosti budeme rozvíjet především pomocí čtení odborných textů, poslechem promluv odborníků, diskusí k dané problematice a písemným shrnutím obsahu. V semináři je kladen důraz na rozvoj schopnosti komunikace, který je přirozeně podněcován aktivní prací ve skupinách: budeme pracovat nejen na "miniprojektech" v rámci jedné hodiny, ale i na větších projektech (k výběru máme např. veřejnou promluvu, panelovou diskusi, kulatý stůl, skupinovou prezentaci, či "mini-seminář"). Od studentů se očekává činorodé, tvořivé zapojení se do aktivit v hodině, promýšlení látky na základě vlastní zkušenosti, diskuse a reflexeco jim to přineslo.Vyučující bude poskytovat podporu, pomoc i pravidelnou zpětnou vazbu k probíhající i odvedené práci. Osvojování a upevňování nové slovní zásoby bude navíc posíleno interaktivními cvičeními, která budou po každém tematickém semináři k dispozici on-line. Domácí úkoly (schematické shrnutí textu, příprava '2-minute talk' na vybrané téma, tvorba tematických glosářů) a vlastní agenda studentů (tj. student sám rozhodne, co do příště udělá) budou nedílnou součástí našich setkání.

The classes will be conducted in English.
The primary emphasis of the course is on communication. We shall use relevant authentic materials (content-based learning) and work on various tasks (task/project-based learning) mainly in groups since group work naturally requires that students communicate and interact with others. Apart from working on and presenting "one-session" projects, students will also work on and present several "ongoing" projects (e.g. public speech, panel discussion, round table, academic presentation, mini-seminar, etc.). Reading field-related articles and academic texts, watching videos, following/listening to lectures and talks, discussion and writing summaries, homework assignments and the learners' own learning agenda shall be integral part of our sessions.

Získání předepsané atestace (zkoušky) je výsledkem průběžného hodnocení (jinými slovy: je dáno jak hodnocením práce v hodinách, tak domácí přípravy či úkolů).
PŘI ZÁVĚREČNÉM HODNOCENÍ BUDE BRÁN ZŘETEL NA:
aktivní účast v hodinách (či kompenzaci absence splněním zadané práce)
kvalitu prezentací (individuálních a skupinových projektů: diskuse, mini-přednáška/seminář)
úroveň domácí přípravy a tematických glosářů
závěrečnou psanou reflexi
test z odborné slovní zásoby (prezenční forma)

V případě nepřítomnosti je na odpovědnosti studenta, aby si zmeškanou látku doplnil a sledoval aktuální informace. Předepsané studijní povinnosti je třeba plnit ke stanovenému datu.
KLASIFIKACE:
A (výtečně) = 91 % a více (vynikající výkon pouze s drobnými chybami)
B (velmi dobře) = 81-90 % (nadprůměrný výkon avšak s určitými chybami)
C (dobře) = 71-80 % (celkově dobrý výkon s řadou výrazných chyb)
D (uspokojivě) = 61-70 % (přijatelný výkon, ale se značnými nedostatky)
E (dostatečně) = 51-60 % (výkon splňuje minimální požadavky)
F (nedostatečně) = 0-50 % (je zapotřebí značné množství další práce)

Your end-of-year score will be based on points you accumulate across continuous assessment.
THE ASSESSMENT WILL BE BASED ON THE FOLLOWING ASPECTS:
active participation in classes (or completion of compensation tasks for missed classes)
quality of group project presentations + quality of written component of the projects (discussions, mini-lecture/seminar)
homework assignments and thematic glossaries
self-assessment of your overall progress throughout the academic year
final test (in class)

In our language courses, attendance records are kept. It is the student's responsibility to make up for their absence and contact their teacher via e-mail (ideally in advance - prior to the session).
All assignments must be submitted/presented on their due dates. Exceptions can be made only in cases of illness or extra compulsory components of students' degree subjects.
GRADING:
A (excellent) = 91 % and more (outstanding performance with only minor errors)
B (very good) = 81-90 % (above the average standard but with some errors)
C (good) = 71-80 % (generally sound work with a number of notable errors)
D (satisfactory) = 61-70 % (fair but with significant shortcomings)
E(sufficient) = 51-60 % (performance meets the minimum criteria)
F (fail) = 0-50 % (considerable further work is required)
