Kurz je určen posluchačům bakalářského i magisterského studia, kteří úspěšně absolvovali odbornou angličtinu určenou pro jejich studijní zaměření a chtějí dále rozvíjet své znalosti anglického jazyka s ohledem na akademické prostředí. V kurzu se zaměříme na zdokonalení všech jazykových dovedností (čtení, psaní, poslech, mluvení) a gramatiku a slovní zásobu používané v akademické angličtině na úrovni C1 (advanced).

The course is aimed at students who have successfully passed the JLB004, JLB008, JLB046, JLB006, JLB002, JLB010 and JLM001 courses and want to improve their
English. We will focus on practising academic English skills, grammar and vocabulary at the C1 (advanced) level.

Kurz bude vyučován prezenčně nebo online, v závislosti na epidemiologické situaci.
Studenti se v hodinách věnují převážně rozvoji komunikačních a poslechových dovedností, sledování autentických přednášek a čtení textů. Pracují ve dvojicích či skupinkách. Je vyžadována i pravidelná domácí příprava ve formě vypracování gramatických cvičení či procvičení psaní.

Depending on the covid situation, the course will be taught in person or online.

Students will work mostly in pairs or small groups in order to develop their listening, reading and communication skills. They will be asked to prepare for the lessons regularly
and do their homework, mostly grammar and writing practice.

Studenti musí prokázat znalosti akademické slovní zásoby, gramatiky a kolokací. Musí porozumět mluvené i psané akademické angličtině a být schopni napsat jednotlivé části diplomové práce.
Požadavky k zápočtu sestávají ze tří částí. Body z všech částí se sčítají. Studenti musí dosáhnout nejméně 70% z celkového počtu bodů.
1. Studenti musí nahrát 3 krátké seminární práce do 20. 05. 2022 do složky na Google disku. Témata prací budou specifikována v průběhu semestru. Studenti mohou získat za každou práci až 20 bodů.
2. Studenti vypracují malý skupinový projekt na jimi zvolené téma. Na projektu budou studenti pracovat téměř výhradně v hodinách a výsledky budou prezentovány formou krátké zprávy či prezentace. Studenti dostanou podrobné informace na začátku semestru. Studenti mohou získat až 20 bodů za skupinovou zprávu či prezentaci.
3. Závěrečný souhrnný test 10. 5. 2022 (online) s dalšími moznostmi ve zkouškovém období zaměřený na všech pět lekcí probraných v semestru (lekce 6-10, Cambridge Academic English). Studenti mají tři pokusy. Test bude obsahovat slovní zásobu, gramatiku, kolokace, porozumění akademickému textu a esej.
Docházka není povinná, nicméně studenti, kteří zameškají více než tři lekce, musí odevzdat deník, ve kterém popíší svou pravidelnou domácí přípravu (min 1500 slov).

Students need to show knowledge of academic vocabulary, grammar and collocations. They need to understand both spoken and written academic English and be able to write up individual sections of a research project.
Credit requirements consist of three parts. The points from the individual parts add up. Students need to reach at least 70% of the total number of points.
1. Students need to submit 3short assignments by 20.05.2022. A Google Drive folder will be provided for this. The topics of the assignments will be specified during the semester in SIS.
Students can receive up to 20 points for each of the assignments.
2 To practice academic English skills in a concrete way, students will do a small group research project on a topic of their choice. The research project will be done almost exclusively during the lessons and
the findings will be presented in the form of a short group report or presentation. Detailed information on the research project will be given. Students can receive up to 20 points for the group research results report
or presentation.
3. Final online test on 10.05.2022 and during the exam period (to be confirmed by e-mail) . It will test all five units covered during the semester. (units 6 - 10, Cambridge Academic English). Students have three attempts. The test will contain vocabulary, grammar, collocations, understanding an academic text and an essay.
Attendance is strongly recommended but it is not obligatory. Students who miss more than three classes must hand in a description of their regular preparation for the course in a form of a journal (min 1500 words).
