In recent years the EU has spent a lot of time and money on communicating with its citizens, explaining its policies and its purpose. But this communication has been low on impact. In spite of the great significance of the EU, its impact on national policy making is usually underestimated and EU news is systematically under-reported by national media. The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the main aspects of communication about and within the EU, to discuss the reasons for the so-called ‘communication deficit’ and its possible solution.
